Guest guest
Gee, its always something else! Did they give you any idea as to how long it would last? My son had that as a teenager.... very unlikely to happen in someone so young (he was always the kid who got the weird illnesses) but also much less painful, too. Hope they were able to give you something to help out with the pain and the rash. Barb blukky-taxol plus Well, I went to the doctor today. Kind of a rush deal when I repoorted a "rash". The Onc said come see me NOW. okie dokie...I have shingles. eeeek! AND some of the leg pain. (the length of the femur, skip the joint and down the front of the shin. The Onc attributes that "nerve pain" to the shingles. Also, on one side of my lower back it just hurt like crazy starting two days ago. She also says that is due to the shingles. My outbreak so far is on my left side right next to the hip bone. That bunch/patch is about 3 square inches. Yesterday, another patch started on the left side of my belly button. <blush>She told me something very interesting. Hopefully, I'll say it correctly. She said that shingles is a virus. A sister to chicken pox. It lies dormant in the body until something disturbs it like nerves and compromised immune systems. When it strikes you it will only strike on ONE SIDE of the body. She pointed my situation out. The ones that started on my belly button start at the middle and go to the left. She said due to the spinal cord and how the nerves are constructed it will stay on one side.I just thought that was wild.I aslked her about a guy I saw in the infusion room the other day. He had a red, lumpy rash on one side of his forehead/nose/cheek and chin. like he painted half his face. She said it most likely was shingles. It sounds like the perfect description.Anyway...just thought I'd pass this along. I've been having such a hard time with this taxol I had no idea there was something else going on.The rash started 6 days ago and started a new patch 2 days ago.I've now spoken with 4 patients that have gone off taxol because of the herrendous side effects. Then, I heard some of the girls in different groups saying it wasn't all that bad for them. I thought I was being a real trooper sticking with it.But, heck now I have no idea what pain is attached to what for sure so who knows if it was "just" the taxol.Oh well... another pill to take. Another ouchie to fix. :-)hugs guys!Darifastest2@...
Guest guest
Dari Those anti virus pills work pretty good, but my shingles took three months to go away. I used Aveeno spray to help the itching or rash. It soothes it. Made from oatmeal. Then after I had my lumpectomy it came back just as strong, and hurt just as much. My regular dr ordered a Lidocaine patch, called Lidoderm. It works so well but I am allergic to patches. You can cut it into several pieces for different areas. Ask your dr because this is made just for shingles. Sorry you have to go through this along with your bc and Taxol. I researched it online and it is called Herpes Zoster, a cousin of chicken pox (you are contagious only to people who have never had chicken pox) and you can give it to children and others. I was sure surprised, as my herpes zoster was in the nerve on my right side going clear around to my back. The nerve gets inflamed and later you get the rash. I had gone to the dr on a Sunday because it hurt so much. He xrayed me but couldn't diagnose shingles until the rash broke out. Not fun at all. Just be glad that it's not on your face as I have a friend who lost her eyesight in one eye from Shingles. All for now. Love & hugs Dari You have been through the worst part. Guest guest
Shingles is actually part of the herpes virus. It is extremely painful and it affects the nerves. The rash is the inflammed nerves coming out to the skin surface. Most of us carry the herpes virus in one form or another. So sorry to hear you have the pain and rash. Guest guest
I have dealt with shingles breaking out on the chin since I was a young child after I'd had chicken pox. Nerves/stress, over exposure to sun/sunburn, illness will bring it out. Now I'll have to be sure to tell the Onc. Before I start chemo, wonder since I have a history if I'll more likely get it.
