Guest guest
Jen, The thirst and urination were Jake's only symptoms (oh, he was cranky for several weeks prior which is very odd for him). As a peds nurse, I took him to the peds floor in the hospital where I worked and had his blood sugar checked. The nurses I worked with, all very experienced peds nurses, right away said he looked so good that he couldn't have diabetes. His blood sugar that night was 463 (anything over 120 is high). So, until their sugar gets very dangerously high, you really can't tell by looking. As you know, diabetes and celiac go together (about 1 in 10 type 1 diabetics have celiac). Which comes first is a guess. Most get the diabetes Dx first, but this could well be because its much easier to detect. Sounds like you are really suspicious so I would trust your instincts and get him in to the pediatrician for a finger check of his blood sugar (if you know someone with a meter, check it yourself). High sugars can be really dangerous - better to be safe than sorry. Let me know how it goes - I'll say a prayer for you both. Kerri Relax. Yahoo! Mail virus scanning helps detect nasty viruses!
