Guest guest
Donna, I was primarily symptom free for years. Then I got to the point where I couldn't sleep, the muscle pain was extreme (frankly, I thought I was developing some sort of neurological disorder), on and on and on. I actually have an ankle that the urgent care doc told me was tendonitis about 8 months ago, but has never healed properly (I went in demanding an x-ray because I was convinced it was broken, but they kept telling me it was unnecessary). I think part of the reason I didn't have so many symptoms is that I was vegetarian a good deal of the time and cooked from scratch... ate a lot of salads and only had a minimal amount of gluten anyway. I read somewhere that people may fluxuate on the amount of gluten it takes to trigger, so in my case, I think I might have been below my threshold. I have read that many people are symptom free, so don't think you're alone. Maybe those people just don't seek help as often. Love and Light,Kristi symtomsI have only recently joined this group and am grateful that I've found it. I was diagnosed a year ago with cd. I never had the physical symptoms that everyone else seems to have. I mean I and my doc knew something was wrong because of my labs being out of whack. But the only physical symptoms I really had were fatigue and itching. The messages that I am reading on this site seem to involve people who really have debilitating ailments(nausea, stomach pain, cramping etc) I have never had those symptoms when I was still eating gluten. I really feel for all of you whom experience these horrible attacks when you are accidently glutened. But being without those symptoms, I really wonder somrtimes if I am ingesting gluten accidently, although I am very careful about the foods I eat. Is ther anyone else out there that were symptom free while they were eating gluten? Thanks to all who may reply. Yahoo! MailUse Photomail to share photos without annoying attachments. Guest guest
I thought to that I had no symptoms, but after going gluten free for a while, I experienced severe diarrhea after eating a slice of pizza or cookie. My doctor thought I might have celiac disease after I have had trouble loosing weight and retaining water. I do well if I do not eat gluten, but when eating gluten, my lower back hurts to touch and my skin fills with water and I pick up weight. You might just have different symptoms or not as severe symptoms. > > I have only recently joined this group and am grateful that I've found it. I was diagnosed a year ago with cd. Guest guest
My seven year old son and husband were diagnosed in July 05. They didn't have any symptoms. They were only tested because my three year old daughter was diagnosed in May. Thankfully, she was diagnosed so we found out about the rest of my family. My daughter had horrible symptoms that started at the age of two. She was meeting all of her milestones until then. We went from NO symptoms to accidentally ingesting to gluten to major diarrhea. My son had chocolate milk at a restaurant only to find out it was malted chocolate. (I learned my lesson on asking about everything) My husband accidentally had some powdered coffee creamer that sent him to the washroom. Although my son and hubbie didn't have symptoms prior to, they both say they feel so much better being gluten free. --- lambert_tanya wrote: > I thought to that I had no symptoms, but after going > gluten free for > a while, I experienced severe diarrhea after eating > a slice of pizza > or cookie. Guest guest
Ditto on the lower back pain and I seem to also have mood swings when glutened. Guest guest
Like you, I had no overt symptoms. At least, I didn't think so. As a regular blood donor of many years, I was denied and it led to the discovery that I was anemic and my eventual diagnosis. I suspect I probably developed celiac after upping my intake of whole grains, in particular wheat, during the last two or three years before my diagnosis. Looking back now, I always seemed to develop a mild case of the " big D " a few hours after having lunch. I always thought it was due to the intake of fruit I had (usually three pieces for lunch), but it was probably a response to the whole wheat bread I used in making my sandwiches. As far as I can tell, I still have no overt symptoms, and I'm fairly scrupulous in my eating habits. But I'm the only GF member in my house and I'm sure that I've accidentally ingested gluten on occasion, with no overt symptoms. My guess is that since my diagnosis came rather quickly after the onset (less than two years), the damage done was not extensive and healing quickly followed. Still, there are the days of unexplained fatigue, even when I'm positive I've had nothing bad. So I'm always careful. Guest guest
Oh, we symptom-ambiguous people are the ones slogging through the gluten challenge trying to get an unambiguous diagnosis…. I’m all about fatigue also Donna, and very mild gastro symptoms and a few joint pains and migraines. Laurie lbilyeu@... From: SillyYaks [mailto:SillyYaks ] On Behalf Of Kristi L. Guest guest
So, you didn’t have symptoms until you’d cleared your body of the poison? And now a little bit does cause symptoms? I wondered if that could happen. Laurie lbilyeu@... Guest guest
My daughter went gf last week. She never had symptoms and all her tests are " odd " --biopsy & testing of secretins came back with 2 very low & 1 normal (impossible according to the doc!), blood tests have all been negative for cd--except for 1 of the 2 genetic markers coming back positive! Gabby had occasional diarhhea & conspitation but nothing horrible; no stomach pains, no vomiting, no gas...her only symptoms were terrible itchy patches and MAJOR failure to thrive! (She is 3 & the size of a thin 1 year old--20.2 pounds yesterday & 33.25 " tall) We also found out she has inactive TB, which could also account for failure to thrive! (Gabby was adopted 16 months ago from a Russian orphanage...probably where the TB came from) So, not everyone has the AWFUL reactions! Gabby never complained, but we have noticed her tummy has diminished in the past week...possibly bloated from gas. Anyway, she has more energy now. Oh joy...she seemed borderline HYPER BEFORE...now she's ALL OVER the place!!! As an older first time mom (soon to be 44), I'm exhausted just watching her! Guest guest
Oh, good for Gabby! I hope she continues to improve! Hang in there mom! She’ll make you young again if you let her! I hope you find lots of fun spaces for her to express all that energy! Laurie lbilyeu@... Guest guest
My diagnosis ( and I use that word meaning a doctor I trust told me so, because I'm too chicken to get the biopsy) came after a test revealed extremely low iron levels, among other helpful nutrients that seemed to be bypassing absorption. I didn't think I had any other symptoms. But after being gluten free for just a short while, the near constant nausea that countless doctors told me was from my blood sugar medications disappeared. I didn't feel the need to RACE to the bathroom 2 or 3 times a day (again, attributed to the meds or maybe lactose intolerance). And, when the general fatigue and mental fog that I had become accustomed to as normal began to lift, I realized how bad I really had felt. After not having gluten for a while the more violent symptoms appear after an accidental poisoning (more sensitive to it now, I guess). Severe cramping, nausea, diarrhea, special things that you love to share with people who ask, " So , what does it do to you " over lunch.
