Guest guest
Rhiannon, did you ever find out what was triggering your itches? or find a solution? In the past few weeks I've been getting off and on itchy rash around my left ear and part of my hairline in the back. I also have a small scratch just inside my ear that would ooze a bit, dry up, and then crack and bleed. I went to the doctor because at the same time I had the inner ear infection in each and she gave me drops for that and cream for the outer ear. In the past couple of days I think I've narrowed the culprit to chocolate and/or coffee...or rather caffeine! A few years back when we first started drinking cappacino at home every night, we were using regular strength and I started getting a terrible itching down behind my ear and along my neck but inside... stopped drinking the cappacino and it went away. We switched to decaf and it was fine. I can drink a cup or two of regular coffee a day and no problem. But it's looking like if I get too much caffeine in any form it makes that itching start up again. Oh, Valentines Day, I had eaten more chocolates than normal, plus had coffee, and a Mt. Dew (Not all at once, but throughout the day) that night I was itchy all over and had to take benedryl to fall asleep. I didn't have any rash other than behind my left ear and where the scratch had started to heal became inflamed and itchy again. Pretty much my whole body felt itchy but had no rash. (It wasn't the soap as I used a gluten free, clear, hypo-allergenic one that I've been using without any problems, same with shampoo)... And since going a few days without any caffeine, the itching has stopped. I'm having a cup of coffee today to see if any reaction. I'm hoping that's it and not an acutal allergic reaction to Chocolate!! Oh, that would be sooooooo depressing! :-) in VA
Guest guest
Well, sort of figured it out I guess. I had bought a new kind of Dove bodywash that has exfoliating beads in it. It looks to be gluten free and I use Dove always, so I thought it was fine. Something in it was making me react. I went and got a new bottle of the old stuff I was using and my skin has been fine, with the help of several days of Benedryl. But, I am still having head itching and little acne like marks on my neck, which for me always means something I am using is causing a reaction. I can't seem to find a shampoo and conditioner that is working for me. I keep trying stuff that seem to be GF, but can't get it right. I want to try that Free and Clear stuff, but again, what if it doesn't work for me. It might be okay allergy wise, but I have a lot of trouble finding something that doesn't make my hair more oily also. It's very thick and curly and gets oily fast. I could never go two days without washing it. So, now I don't know where to turn. I have an appt. with my gastro. this week and I am going to talk to him about it and maybe he has a derm. to recommend for me. ???? I am also almost out of shampoo and conditioner and have to go buy some today, but what to get????? So, at least I fixed half of my problem. Guest guest
I have the same problem Rhiannon, and it is annoying, I mess with many types and nothing works, or it works for a spell then one day stops working, it gets annoying! Now I just learned something the other day, and I am planning on trying it tonight… straight vinegar. I use it for cleaning, dishwashing, clothes washing you name it, but someone told me it works wonders on difficult hair/scalp issues. So I will be the guinea pig and let everyone know how it went hehe… I use it for everything else why not hair! JudyLynn www.tomatothyme.com My little plot of the earth ) Enjoy! Guest guest
Yeah! Half the problem is a good start! Exfoliating beads. Who knows what that might be, eh? I think the Free and Clear shampoo will handle oily hair just fine—mine is oily also, and thick (but not curly). Don’t bother with conditioner obviously. Good luck on the rest. Laurie lbilyeu@... Guest guest
I have to use conditioner though because the ends of my hair get dry and my hair is sort of frizzy because of the curliness. It's weird, I know, but it is what I was born with unfortunately. It's one of those things that everyone else loves, but the one who has it. Rhiannon > > Yeah! Half the problem is a good start! Guest guest
Maybe I am dumb, but how do you wash your hair with baking soda and vinegar? Obviously I realize that the soda is going to start to foam up when you mix the two together, but what do you do?...Put the soda on your head and then just pour the vinegar on? I'm not really understanding how that would clean your hair I guess. Not saying that it might not work. I use vinegar for a lot of other cleaning stuff too. It just seems odd to me. Guest guest
I don’t use the baking soda, I have heard of other people doing it though. Apparently they add water to it to make a paste, rub it in their hair (focus on the scalp since that is where the irritation is usually) and rinse it with the vinegar. I personally haven’t tried it, although I intend to. I tried the vinegar thing this evening, the way it was explained to me is you pour the vinegar in your hair and scrub your scalp lightly then rinse well. That’s what I did and it worked great, now I don’t know if it is going to help my scalp immediately, but I can say my scalp isn’t itchy right now, it was easy to comb through (it is used in replacement of fabric softener in clothes so I figured it was good for hair too) Tomorrow I will be trying the baking soda as well, I just forgot to bring it into the shower with me this evening. Hope that helps! JudyLynn www.tomatothyme.com My little plot of the earth ) Enjoy! Guest guest
Baking soda and vinegar- isn’t that what we used in science class as kids to make faux volcanoes (add red food dye for extra fun)? Seems awfully messy?
