> Hi Jette!

> Ah, to be size 7/9...heck I would be happy with a 12/14 right

now!! I am 23, living in MN with my fiancee and our three cats. I am

at my highest weight right now, 200. I have been bouncing back and

forth between this and 185 for the past six months or so.

> I have always been a curvy girl, but what really pushed my weight

up was using the Depo Provera shot for about a year and a half.

Every three months I would get the shot and gain 5-10 pounds. I

didn't really notice until it was too late.

> Has anyone else experienced that problem?

Theresa,

YES YES YES! I think that is part of how I got so far gone...I will

be getting my next shot in July, so I think that I shall test the

theory for you then, we shall see if I gain weight right after my

next shot...remind me! That damn shot has always made me want to do

nothing but eat and sleep for about 2 days after I get it, and then

I am back to " normal " . I'd be happy with a 12/14 right now

too...hell, I would be happy with 18s, lmao! I'll take what I can

get, hahaha!

We actually had a thread about depo last month, and a lot of people

mentioned having problems with it. I have been on depo for 10 years, but I

don't know that I can " blame " my weight gain on that, since I have been

steadily gaining weight since I was a teenager. I am sure it did not help

though, since a lot of others have had trouble with it. I'm just not willing

to give it up as my birth control though! I love not having a period each

month!

Yeah, I know a lot of people who not only had a period on depo, but had it

more often, for longer periods of time. I definitely would not have stayed

on it either! But since it has such a great side effect for me, I am

determined to stick it out, LOL. Besides... the pill was definitely not

working for me... and I have a son to prove it! I love him, but don't want

to risk any other unexpected suprises.

:-) So that made me get back on the Pill and just deal with the monthlies!

Theresa,

No, it is definitely not just a scare tactic! When we discussed this before,

someone (I think it was Ang) mentioned that she has been pregnant several

times while using various methods of birth control, and finally got her

tubes tied (even that has a 99.7% effectiveness, LOL, so there is that .3%

chance of getting pregnant!)

No birth control is 100% effective (except abstinence) even when used

perfectly. For the pill, " perfect " use consists of taking it everyday, at

the same TIME each day. Even then, depending on the brand, it can be

anywhere from 94% to 99% effective. I was never very good at remembering...

some days I would take it in the morning, some days I would forget until

midnight! Not following " perfect " use lowers the effectiveness even more,

and thus... I got pregnant! It was most likely my own fault for not

following the rules, but I like the depo, because there is less

responsibility for me to remember. It is only once every 3 months, and I get

a reminder when my shot is due. Much easier for me!

Tammy,

I have two friends that are on that patch, and they both like it.

They say the first few days until you get used to it being on you

are a little weird, but after that, its no big deal. I was giving

thought to switching to that type as well, I am on Depo right now,

but since Uncle Tom has decided that I need a visit every month now

that I have dropped some weight, I may as well switch, since the

reason I stayed on the Depo was so Tom would not visit.

yes i'm sure it's not actually the shot that makes you gain weight

it's the increased appetite and what you pick to eat but with the

increase in appetite you are less likely to pick " good " things

because your hunger is more acute. so in that way the shot does

cause it. tammy d 284/271/140

Me too! My DS was a pill baby. When I had DD, they put me on one

of those variable dose pills, and had me start it at the wrong time,

and poof, when DD was three months old...we made another baby! So,

my kids are nine hours shy of being exactly a year apart, lmao!

Hey Nicci,

I wonder if that is why they always have such skinny women modeling

the patch? I don't remember seeing anything in the fine print about

that, I am going to have to ask my Doc about that when I go in for

my Pap...I totally believe you, but she will have all the good dirt,

lmao!

Nicci,

Will do! Now, you have to please help me remember to bring it up

with her, I have to go for my Pap in early July...when I mention

that its time, remind me to ask her about that, because I have given

some serious thought to switching! When I lose enough weight, I

want to go have my tubes tied. Hell, I want them to cut them out, I

don't need them, haha, but they won't humor me, lmao!

Welcome, Beth.

I'm sorry for your loses.

You should feel good about yourself that you were not willing to

comprimise and that you pushed for a correct dx.

I am one of the people who only had to have 1 resection.

While I'm not sure exactly what you should do, I am a firm believer

in one's " gut " instinct, and think you should follow what it tells

you when it's strong about something.

I also know that when we know SO much about our bodies, we

sometimes can take on more responsibility than we have, such as I

often feel like I have to have ALL the answers before I can TTC, and

fears about " what if I make the wrong choice " in my treatment. We

are only responsible for what we know, and even though we are

supposed to educate ourselves and make good choices, after a

certain point, I think faith has to take us the rest of the way.

Only you can determine if your fears are your " gut " telling you

something isn't right, or if you are just heaping too much

responsibility on yourself because you want to spare yourself

anymore loss (Understandably so!).

Whatever you do, we're happy to have you. Feel free to post any

questions you have, there's lots of info and support here!
