How long have you been GF?

My little boy slept for the first 2 wks GF an extreme amount of time.

He was falling alseep at 4:30pm and not waking up till morning, we

could not make him wake-up either which was bit scary.

He's been GF for about 6 months now (wow, time flies) and he has been

napping this week and he hasn't napped for over a year except on

occassion. He is 3 1/2 almost 4.

I tend to think that 'tiredness' is a way of the body to tell you to

slow down, I need rest to heal or in kids grow.

tired again, and this morning I feel really tired again. I've gone

back and reviewed my diet, but can't find any offenders. The foods

I've eaten aren't all labeled gf, but the ingredient list is okay and

the ones that have " natural flavors " I called on (con-agra products).

The only change is last week I was a few days before my period, and

today I'm on day 5 of my cycle. Is is possible that hormones play a

role in celiac symptoms?

Off topic, but in my son's preschool, 5th disease is spreading like

wildfire. It doesn't have many symptoms but tiredness is an indication. I

think my son finished the cycle yesterday - the red spot on his face that

looked like someone slapped him. The other symptom is a mild fever (we

didn't seem to have that one). It is realitively harmless in kids but

dangerous around a pregnant woman.

I've been gf for about six weeks now, with two errors that I am aware of. The last time I felt like this I found that I made a food mistake 12 hours prior to the symptoms. This time I can't find any.Rejoyce Hanson wrote: How long have you been GF?My little boy slept for the first 2 wks GF an extreme amount of time.He was falling alseep at 4:30pm and not waking up till morning, wecould not make him wake-up either which was bit scary. He's been GF for about 6 months now (wow, time flies) and he has beennapping this week and he hasn't napped for over a year except onoccassion. My son had that for the first time at 8 months of age - we think it

was the thing that triggered his celiac. What the doctor probably

didn't tell you is that it can flare up again for about 2 years. We

also learned that for a long time (maybe three years?) after a child

has had it, their cheeks can get that " slapped look " every time they

run a fever - it was a better indicator than the thermometer of when

my son was getting sick.

Thanks for the information. I didn't know about the flare ups. We never

went to the doctor as I didn't really realize we had it until it was over but

went by the information sent home from school. Good to know! Thanks.

MJ (the celiac in our family) has been GF for about 15 months now, and we

are (we hope!) getting close to the end of the little things that don't

immediately come to mind. In her case, the first evidence of a problem is

as apt to be DH as it is gastric.

A few examples:

cookware - we finally replaced all wooden utensils that had been used

prior to GF with flour

Chocolate - (we have a weakness here - especially for dark chocolate,

which is supposed to be " good for you " ) - some brands are not GF, and in

particular Hershey's miniatures contain malt.

Soups from the freezer that dated back to before GF: need to be sure

which ones had some flour and which are OK.

I did call about the chocolate I've eaten recently (Cadbury's Royal Dark) and the people at Hershey said there wasn't anything in it. Even if I were to eat an unfamiliar brand, wouldn't the label list malt or barley?n wrote: In , on 02/15/06 at 08:34 AM, wendy pandolfo typed:>I've been gf for about six weeks now, with two errors that I am aware of.>The last time I felt like this I found that I made a food mistake 12>hours prior to the symptoms. In this case - the Hershey's Miniatures, we had been buying the

individually wrapped ones from a bulk bin and the nutritional info is only

on the bags that have a lot of miniatures.

I just went to Hershey's web site, which is one of those irritating

flashy but uninformative sites, trying to look at the label for the

hershey's miniatures. I have had the miniature milk chocolate and dark

chocolate without noticing any problems, and I was wondering where the

barley malt would be? It seems strange to me that the formula for those

mini-bars would be different than the formula for the larger bars (but

I know companies can be crazy like that). TIA for explaining the

situation to me :D
