Guest guest
From: " Briarwood " <briarwood@...> Hi , I may be all wet but I am under the impression a herx comes about because you have changed your medication and I've never done that. I have been on the same dose of 2 100 mg Minocin for 16 months so the summer of flu like feeling and stiffness would be a flare. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what I have understood. Bev Hi and Bev, A Herx is your body's reaction to kill off of bacteria by the antibiotic. A flare is when your symptoms get worse in response to a stressor, i.e.; stress, work, environment, diet, etc. -- Kiana Rossi bornfree@... Guest guest
, Physically do they feel the same? I have never had a herx that I know of but lots of flares. Lisbeth said the white blood count is higher with a herx so you would have to get a blood test to tell the difference?? According to your description a flare would be hard to pin down, at least in my case because when I was so ill during the summer, nothing in my life was much different than usual. Guest guest
Without blood tests, I think the best evidence for a herx is how the symptoms follow the medication. If you keep a diary you will see the peaks and valleys according to your meds. A flare may occur without any pattern related to your medication. If you use a diary on the computer, you can do a search for words that would show the pattern. I use the key words fatigue, reflux, pain etc. and if I do a search you can see how they are directly after my meds.
