Guest guest
HI Deb, Congrats on the weight loss!!! You have done especially well especially with the holidays thrown in there! I have been having fluid retention in my ankles, feet and hands the last 4 days and I have no idea why...I have also had the tenderness in my breasts during this time and thought I was going to get my period. I haven't had one since going on Armour (not that I miss it) but I did the same thing when I had my first dosage increase of synthroid after 4 years on the same dose...so maybe I will be getting it again. Guest guest
Darla, When my hyper was real hyper, I had diarrhea so bad I lost 17 lbs. in less than a week. Then the weight gain came, even when I was on TAP and PTU. I've been off the PTU since July. At first I started losing it, watching my diet. Then it became harder. I've joined a diet group ediets. I really like it. The weight has been coming off slow, but it's coming, since joining in Nov. I've lost 14 lbs. I've noticed that the sodium has a real effect on my weight, even very little. Since I've always been cautious of the sodium, I choose the low sodium diet and if I have soup or something like a little salt on popcorn I notice swelling in my legs and hands. Has anyone else noticed this? Debbie R. > > Reply-To: graves_supportegroups > Date: Mon, 22 Jan 2001 22:09:59 +1100 > To: graves_supportegroups > Subject: Re: need help > > Hi Darla > > I my reading when I was first diagnosed I found out that approximately 30% on > GD suffers in Hyperthyroid phase put > on weight. Guest guest
Hello all, my sister has stage iV colon cancer. She has been taking 5FU/LV/cpt11 for three months. She will start her third session (every session 4 weeks of chemo and 2 weeks off) this week. CT after the second session showed that the tumors (lung (8) and liver (1) did not shrink much during first two sessions. We are worried that she is not responding to the treatment. So far, she has been really strong and did not have any serious complications. Do you guys know anything about how the cc tumor usually responds to this kind of treatment. Is there any alternative treatment in the market especially in Europe. Thanks in advance,
Guest guest
Hello friend, Do you have any idea how big the tumors in the lung/liver are? If it is at all possible for your sister to have surgery or undergo other " ablative " techniques such as Radiofrequency Ablation, that is the direction you probably want to go ;o) Camptosar has around a 35-40% tumor response rate according to the FDA registration studies, e.g. see discussion here http://www.healthtalk.com/ctalk/edition37/01.html However, that doesn't necessarily mean that it isn't doing anything - it could be holding everything stable (that's good, right?!). So if she is not having bad side effects from the treatment, one might be cautious to shift away from something that is " working " ! There's an interesting book about some of the alternative therapies free online here http://www.commonweal.org/choicescontents.html Kind of a complicated field with oftentimes not a lot of " solid " ground to stand on. I sorta think some of these things MIGHT " help " some people, but that's a personal opinion as scientific studies have not been done to prove that. Best Wishes, > Hello all, my sister has stage iV colon cancer. She has been taking > 5FU/LV/cpt11 for three months. Guest guest
Thanks for your reply. ONe of the tumors in her lungs is big the others are small including the one in her liver. Overall, she is doing well with the chemo. I agree with you that at least the tumors are not growing. I would like to get few more opinions about how the chemo usually works on tumors. Thanks for your help. Tom > > Hello all, my sister has stage iV colon cancer. She has been taking > > 5FU/LV/cpt11 for three months. There are images in the photo sections showing dif/size, do you know which it is?? It is pretty agressive treatment to have a cat scan after just two treatments I think. What is her CEA prior and now? That might be a good way to see if it is working as well. Always the Best, Betty B.
