Guest guest
Grandma Hut I'm so sorry to hear this.....I'm not sure I have any advice for you, I just hope it works out and you don't end up gaining. Did you tell the dr that you are on Atkins? What did he say? Love

Guest guest
I got my blood work back, which was done two weeks ago. My cholesterol is up forty points to 273 and my LDL 184. My MD wants me on a diet with no fat, no cream, no cheese, only two eggs a week. I feel like crying. They say no bacon, and little or no red meat. Where does that leave me on this WOE. I know when I go on this " healthy diet " my weight will sore. Tears. Grandma Hut __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I did not tell the Doctor that I was on Atkins. I was waiting to see my blood results. Grandma Hut __________________________________________________
Guest guest
http://www.go-diet.com/ The Go Diet is low carb and designed for those with cholesterol problems - you might want to check that out. You could try following that for a couple of months and then have a retest and see if you are moving downwards again. Also, while your total cholesterol went up, how did your ratio turn out? Surf the web for sites about cholesterol and get a good feel for just what is happening withyours. While it's very hard to eat low fat and low carb, you can certainly change the types of fat you are eating. You might have to do a more restricted version of low carb, but there are many people that find they need to limit cream and cheese to lose weight and adjust their menus accordingly. If you like chicken and fish and pork (the other white meat!), limiting beef to a couple of meals a week isn't that bad. I miss my bacon too but I've found that I can't eat highly processed meat without retaining water. Why not take some time and try building some menus that are still low carb, moderate fat (using olive oil and what dieticians term 'healthier fats'). You have something that is working for you - you can always try totweak it before giving up. Even if you do decide to eat low fat, high carb as a way to get your cholesterol down, there is nothing that says that high-carb has to be full of flour and sugar - we get Dr. Gabe Mirkin's radio show here and he promotes low fat but no refined carbohydrates. http://www.drmirkin.com/ Kirstie
Guest guest
Grandma, How long have you been on Atkins? Maybe you got tested too soon? I have heard that it will go up in the beginning. Are they giving you any medication for it? Barbara >I got my blood work back, which was done two weeks >ago. My cholesterol is up forty points to 273 and my >LDL 184. Guest guest
Are there any doctors in your area that are supportive of the Atkins WOE? Most Drs. are still too unwilling to not believe what the nutritionists, etc. have been pushing for so long. I would at least try to find out if there was a pro-Atkins Dr. in the area that you could switch to seeing. Jean 190/142/135 12/7/

Guest guest
Questions: - how long on Atkins? - how much saturated fat are you eating? - was this a fasting cholesterol (no food 12+ hours before)? - do you have genetic predisposition to high cholesterol? If you want to stay LC and work on cholesterol, check the GO diet (aka HiMoLo): http://www.go-diet.com/ HJ ----- Original Message ----- > I got my blood work back, which was done two weeks > ago. Guest guest
Right answer, Barbara. I am not on any medication at present. They may suggest that route after three months from now for retest. I expect the levels will be better then. I have had a bad foot for going on a month now. I have not been able to do any walking or go to the gym. All that I see as a contributing factor. Thanks for everyone's help. Grandma Hut Have been on diet only three months. 187/178/165 __________________________________________________
