Did they actually say to divide the capsules? I understood that the amount of naltrexone is SO small (a grain of sand) that dividing the capsule is not really

an accurate measure. You may be getting no naltrexone in half of the capsule, and all of it in the other half.

The best way to assure the smaller dose would be to have the doctor write the script for 1.5 mg for the first month or so, and then move up. In fact. I had the doc write a script for 90 - 1.5 mg so i could take 1,2 or 3 capsules until I knew which dose was best for me.

Just a suggestion.

Be well,

Arlene

I took 1.5 my first night and didn't sleep until really late. I would divide the capsules the first month. Thatadvice comes right from the mouth of Phil and Skip. It will wean you into the correct dosage easily with no ill effects. Best, Kathy

Where and when did you order the naltrexone?

I have not yet been able to get a prescription. I ordered the 50 mg Naltrexone tablets online and diluted in 50 ml filtered water. I then measured a 3 ml dose. I hope that I did this all correctly and that the pills from India are okay. They were marked "Naltima - 50 mg Naltrexone Hydrochloride". Perhaps there is a bad filler in these?

It is perfectly ok to split the content of the capsules. According to

Skip the content is perfectly mixed and if you split a 3mg capsule in

half you end up with 1.5 mg LDN. If he says its ok then it must be!

The powder inside a well made capsule will have uniform content. The manufacturer will thoroughly blend whatever fillers they are using and the active pharmaceutical ingredient. I have taken many capsules apart to do laboratory analysis of the contents. I'm certain that I would not be able to accurately divide the contents in half, even with all of my fancy lab tools. I've never been able to accurately cut a tablet in half either. If you have to use commercially available products as starting material, use the entire capsule or tablet to ensure that the exact amount of naltrexone is known. If one wants to dissolve the naltrexone into water, then splurge on a good pipet. Mass produced cheap plasticware is notoriously inaccurate and imprecise (repeatable).

This theory has been mentioned before but it depends on the method of

compounding. When a pharmacist compunds a batch of LDN, is the

naltrexone weighed in individual doses and then put into individual

capsules or is the naltrexone for the entire batch weighed, added to the

filler for the entire batch, mixed thoroughly and then distributed to

the capsules?

A pharmacist recently described to me the latter approach as his

method. I think it would be more accurate. There is a margin of error

in any process handling physical materials. The latter method would

distribute the margin of error over all the capsules instead of applying

it to each one. In such a case, all of the powder in all of the

capsules would be a homogeneous mix and dividing the powder in half

would divide the naltrexone in half.

Stating the obvious, repeating it for those that don't know, it's

because there are a few on this group that read these posts in digest

form who regularly complain that for them people posting entire threads

means they have to scan the same content repeatedly. Some have insisted

we all delete all previous content when posting replyings, which, of

course, results in responses to non-existent questions.

Yes, I thought so too. That is how I started the first month with 1.5 capsules and then went to 3.0. However, I talked to Phil a couple years later when I had taken a break from LDN and I only had 3.0 mg. which I thought were too strong for me to start with again. Phil told me to pour out half the powder. It was probably as not to waste the LDN but definitely a better way is to have 1.5compounded. I just figured the person who had just started probably did not want to wait for his second batch to arrive to take another capsule and being up all night is no fun. I agree with you. I should have elaborated a little more on the subject. I get in a hurry sometimes. Happy 4th Arlene, Kathy

I can't comment on how the compounding is actually done- i know that things are weighed and checked during parts of the process. we are suggesting everyone start at 1.5 for a month then move up to 3 then to 4.5 if they are tolerating the 3. thats seems to be going well.cyndiOn Jul 2, 2006, at 2:18 PM, Wesley wrote:This theory has been mentioned before but it depends on the method of compounding.
