I was really pleased that you're slowly coming out of your comfort zone, and

can't help wonder if LDN had anything to do with that? Hope you (and the

witch?) had a great time in Norway, and you don't accidentally leave her in

Bergen! You didn't say whether stopping the Gabapentin helped relieve your

constipation or not though? Or whether the pain or spasms resumed after you

stopped taking it?

Happy Aussie trip planning...

[low dose naltrexone] LDN Update, a little humble pie and Gabapentin

Before I start with my update, I owe " Akiba " an apology, for my silly over

reaction the other day. I like to think of myself as fairly tolerant

normally.

I also owe the group an apology for slipping in a little political comment,

at about the same time. I'm surprised no-one pulled my up on that. It was

aimed at my own prime minister though.

I realise that I'm the " New Kid On The Block " and I thank you all for

showing me more tolerance than I showed to " Akiba "

I hope my apologies sound as sincere as the one I got from Crystal.

That's me now six weeks into the LDN. The first week was fairly rough and I

almost gave up before I'd really started. It was either the Echinacea or

starting on too high a dose.

I dropped to 1.5 ml and have worked my way up by 0.5ml/week. I'm now taking

4ml and going to stay at that for a while.

I'm not sure why everyone else seems to work in multiples of 1.5 I had no

roblems with sleeping at the start, but since I reached 4.0 ml I seem to

having the same problems that ohers have reported. Small price to pay

though.

The biggest benefit I've had is in the reducion in the pain and spasms in my

legs. The only prescription drug I've ever found to help was Gabapentin, but

I've never been too happy about taking that.

About 4 years ago I decided to stop taking it to see if it would help with

my constipation. Instead of stopping gradually, I just stopped overnight.

Two days later I landed in hospital with some kind of seizure.

Be careful if you're thinking to stop taking it!

This time I've reduced it over a week, but I still think that was too quick,

two weeks might have been better. For the last few days I've been feeling

pretty lousy, " cold turkey " , I guess, but I'm Gabapentin free now. No pain

meds at all in fact, and I'm feeling quite pleased with myself.

I had a pretty serious attack in 2000 and since then I've only ventured out

from beneath my rock occasionally, to visit the doctor or the dentist.

Well, three weeks into the LDN I took a trip back up to my adopted home, in

the Shetlands.

Next week I'm going to Norway for a week, by myself. OK, I'm only a five

minute taxi ride from the airport in Aberdeen and 90 minutes later someone

will pick me up at the airport in Bergen, but it's a big step forward for

me. I don't know how much of this is placedo or how much is LDN, but at the

moment I don't care. I'm just gong to make the most of it while I can.

I might even make it to Australia yet, but first I'll have to get rid of the

bad tempered old witch that's been following me around for the last 30

years.

Please be real careful when withdrawing from any anti-seizure medicine like Neurontin, Klonopin, Depakote, etc. Preferably do it under a doc's direction and take a long time, like a couple of months.

Make sure you have an excellent brain nourishing diet during this period, too.

Hi Danny,I've been on Gabapentine about 3yrs, 600mg 4 times a day, I've tried getting off Gabapentine several times, but my leg's hurt so I can't get much sleep, If I knew LDN would take care of the pain once I quit Gabapentine, I would quit fast. Did you have much pain coming off Gabapentine, once off, did the LDN take care of the pain? When I've cut down on Gabapentine, I got more strength and better control of my legs, did you find the same? I feel if I could get off the Gabapentine, I could probably walk. Were you on as much Gabapentine as I am, 2400mg a day? I suppose I could come down from Gabapentine in about two or three weeks.Jim H.

Danny,

I have just started on LDN (2 nights now) I am starting with the 4.5 mg. Would it be better to start on 3 or less? What are some of your experiences with it? What do you mean that the first 6 weeks were rough? What sort of problems did you have? Did you have any GI problems? Any comments please. I have been on Beta-seron for twelve years. I wonder if I should stop the BS for a while.

peg jyou need to start on way less than 4.5. we have a protocol-1.5 for a month 3 for  a month and then see if you can tolerate the 4.5  what we found by looking at all our patients for one year is that people that started too high quit very shortly because of the side effects. starting at 4.5 is absolutely wrong thing to do. the other thing about side effects is every doctor that spoke at the conference and skip too  talked about issues at the beginning and they actually stopped patients and they wished they didn't do that -that the issues that were seen may not have even been side effects but effects that were positive--the number one side effect is sleep disturbances.you cannot take LDN with Beta seroncyndiOn Jun 26, 2006, at 9:45 AM, Peg Janssen wrote:Danny,I have just started on LDN (2 nights now) I am starting with the 4.5 mg. Peg J  -------Original Message------- From: Danny (UK)Date: 06/26/06 06:20:48low dose naltrexone Subject: [low dose naltrexone] LDN Update, a little humble pie and Gabapentin Before I start with my update, I owe "Akiba" an apology, for my silly over reaction the other day. Peg,

There are people here far better qualified to help you than me.

I dont think it's a good idea to mix with Beta interferon. See what the rest say, though.

My problem for the first week, not 6 weeks, was the way the muscles in my legs tightned up, so much that I couldn't sit comfortably. I could never have taken 6 weeks of that.

I was taking echinacea at the time, which also boosts the immune system, so I stopped that and cut the dose down to 1.5 and that sorted it immediately.

I don't think cutting the dose down will cause any problems, but it might give you a more gentle introduction. For what it's worth, I think folk should maybe be advised to start at a lower dose and work their way up.

Here am I, a couple of weeks in and I'm starting to sound like an old hand.

Would some of you real old timers please step in here and help this nice lady.

Apology accepted. But I have used this sign-off for years and I'm not going to change it for one person, sorry. I am an ordained Minister and I believe that every cloud has a silver lining if we only look for it. Even MS. Actually, MS has taught me a lot more tolerance and my having it is teaching my child to grow to be a compassionate, caring young man.

BTW for the group...today is our 10th wedding anniversary!!

Peace and Blessings

Peg,

I too just started on LDN, I am now 3 days. I am only doing 1.5, tho I wish I was doing more cuz I want fast success. I guess my MS problems didn't happen overnight so I can't fix them overnight. I am taking liquid that Skip compounded for me and haven't noticed anything yet. Have you?

We need to stay in touch!

You realize you can't take Betaseron with LDN. You can only take Copaxone if you want a CRAB drug. No other with LDN>

Yes let's keep in touch. Since we both started 3 days ago, we might have lots to say. I got 4.5 mg caps and can't seem to pull them apart. I was going to try to dump part of it so I would have a smaller dose. I don't know what makes you a candidate for 1.5 versus 4.5? I have not had any side affects from 4.5 My doc was not up for me trying LDN but I talked her into it. She wanted me to take 4.5 twice a day. I am only taking it once because I think I know enough not to take it twice a day. I am glad I can't take the beta-seron also. No more shots for a while and maybe not for a long time if the LDN works.

Peg,

What makes me a candidate for the 1.5 is I asked for it. Th doc gave me what I asked for. He gave me liquid cuz he thought I would absorb that better. So last night I decided to take 2 mg. I am going to stick there for month. I am glad you are not having any side effects. Have you noticed anything yet?

The only prescription drug I've ever found to help was Gabapentin, but I've never been too happy about taking that. About 4 years ago I decided to stop taking it to see if it would help with my constipation. Instead of stopping gradually, I just stopped overnight. Two days later I landed in hospital with some kind of seizure.Be careful if you're thinking to stop taking it!This time I've reduced it over a week, but I still think that was too quick, two weeks might have been better. For the last few days I've been feeling pretty lousy, "cold turkey", I guess, but I'm Gabapentin free now. No pain meds at all in fact, and I'm feeling quite pleased with myself.I had a pretty serious attack in 2000 ! and since then I've only ventured out from beneath my rock occasio nally, to visit the doctor or the dentist.Well, three weeks into the LDN I took a trip back up to my adopted home, in the Shetlands.Next week I'm going to Norway for a week, by myself. OK, I'm only a five minute taxi ride from the airport in Aberdeen and 90 minutes later someone will pick me up at the airport in Bergen, but it's a big step forward for me. I don't know how much of this is placedo or how much is LDN, but at the moment I don't care. I'm just gong to make the most of it while I can.I might even make it to Australia yet, but first I'll have to get rid of the bad tempered old witch that's been following me around for the last 30 years.Danny (UK)

PegThe protocol that has started is a result of many many many patients that are taking LDN and the collaboration and combined wisdom  of many people who have been involved through the years. What we found at the pharmacy is many people stopped because they experienced side effects way too soon. Almost every speaker at the conference found the same thing. The wisdom is start low go slow and people are having greater success and its better to do this at the beginning then put yourself in a position where you cannot tolerate it and quit.and I'd like to remind people that it was the same wisdom that made sure no one gets calcium carbonate fillers.cyndi,    Yes let's keep in touch. Peg -------Original Message------- From: and IselbornDate: 06/26/06 16:34:18low dose naltrexone Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] LDN Update, a little humble pie and Gabapentin  Peg,I too just started on LDN, I am now 3 days. No other with LDN>  -------Original Message------- From: Peg JanssenDate: 06/26/06 11:16:02low dose naltrexone Subject: Re: [low dose naltrexone] LDN Update, a little humble pie and Gabapentin Danny,I have just started on LDN (2 nights now) I am starting with the 4.5 mg. I like to think of myself as fairly tolerant normally. I also owe the group an apology for slipping in a little political comment, at about the same time. I'm surprised no-one pulled my up on that. It was aimed at my own prime minister though.I realise that I'm the "New Kid On The Block" and I thank you all for showing me more tolerance than I showed to "Akiba"I hope my apologies sound as sincere as the one I got from Crystal. That's me now six weeks into the LDN. The first week was fairly rough and I almost gave up before I'd really started. It was either the Echinacea or starting on too high a dose. I dropped to 1.5 ml and have worked my way up by 0.5ml/week. I'm now taking 4ml and going to stay at that for a while.
