Guest guest
Mindy, I used to be the king of inhale at meals. I could kill a normal to large meal in 5-7 minutes and that's including some conversation. I'm 4 months out now and still find myself taking at least 20-30 minutes to eat. That's the maximum the doctor said we can spend eating or we're " grazing " again. You'll get used to eating slower. It takes a couple weeks to really get into it. Looking back I can't say I really ever accidentally ate too fast and got sick. I got sick and I knew later that I was eating too fast and just had to admit it to myself that I over indulged speed-wise. Food tends to be more enjoyable for me now too eating slower. Meal times with family and friends are more enjoyable too because I spend more time conversing and paying attention to others instead of focusing on the race to a clean plate. It's good that you tried to modify your behavior early. I tried that too and it was very hard. It's much easier when you have the WLS tool though. Good Luck, Mike in GR > > As I mentioned in an earlier post, I went to my seminar last weekend and it was wonderful! One of the things they mentioned is that we should try modifying our behaviour ASAP - stop smoking (which I don't), and eating slower - taking small bites and chewing more thoroughly. I tried that today while eating lunch and thought I'd go nuts - I didn't do it for very long. I was wondering if you really vomit or whatever if you don't eat so slow? That will be a BIG change for me. > Mindy > > > --------------------------------- > Love cheap thrills? Enjoy PC-to-Phone calls to 30+ countries for just 2¢/min with Yahoo! Guest guest
, How are you doing with no drinking a meal times? This was super hard for me at first!!! LOL I tried doing this pre op too and just really stunk at it!! The good thing was post op, you have no choice. This whole pouch thing works really well!!! :)Your doc's office is right on with the eraser sized bites. This will also be easier post op!! PROMISE!! The 1st 3 months after surgery will be the hardest, you will be adjusting to new ways of eating and it is hard to figure everything out. The key is really just eating slow and taking small bites. We will be here for you!! If you have any questions just throw them out here!! Hugs!!!!!! > > Our instructor said no bite should be larger then the pink eraser at the end > of a pencil .... Guest guest
yes, it is so important to chew, chew, chew, i still get sick if i eat big bites, which result in me eating to fast, which makes me eat to much, then i am in serious pain, believe me, you don't want to get use to that feeling, then you will gain weight. Guest guest
Mike, you sound like me. Thats exactly my MO. I believe i reaced because I didn't want people to stare at me while I ate. I hovered over my plate. I never really realized it until after this surgery. I have had a hard time with this in phase 3. I am working hard on slowing down and enjoy it or i get sick. Hard habits are hard to break. Shauna Mike wrote: Mindy, I used to be the king of inhale at meals. I could kill a normal to large meal in 5-7 minutes and that's including some conversation. Guest guest
Thanks ................ I'm a type A personality who eats fast, sometimes while standing, gulps my water and diet soda's and am always done way before everyone else, yet I've eaten way more then them. So I am a bit concerned about getting all the under control once I have the surgery............... No soda, no standing, no fast eating, no drinking while eating, chew, chew, chew, slowly and stop after a couple of tablespoon fulls............... this will be a challenge, but one that is welcome.
