Guest guest
Strange you should ask.. a friend of mine who was decompressed a couple months ago had this as one of her prevalent symptoms. She would always have it at night or when she woke up in the morning. When she sat up it would go away. She heard people talking, etc.. and she knew she was awake. The other thing was seeing scary things. She would see these things along with the voices until she sat up. Dr. Batzdorf said it was the Chiari and that it would go away with the surgery. So far it's gone. Connie ACM 13mm surgery 5/26/00 Hearing Things! Hi All, As long as I've been on this site I've never read of anyone else having this problem. But with all the talk about hearing whooshing, ringing, and heartbeats I thought I would run it by everyone. Maybe, like me, you just thought it was too weird. O.K., hear goes..... Sometimes I hear things like people talking far away, radios or music that sounds far off, like in another room or outside. Car doors slamming, doors shutting, stuff like that. Of course when I go check it out there is no radio and I'm totally alone. It's not a spooky, scary, " I hear dead people " kind of hearing things and the voices don't tell me to kill people or anything bizarre. In fact, I usually can't even make out what is being said. Usually. Most of the time this happens in the middle of the day when I'm wide awake, but a couple of times it's happened when I'm just about to go to sleep, kinda in the " twilight zone " . I don't have a headache or dizziness or anything else I can relate it to. The few times it occured just prior to sleep it was my son's voice I heard, calling " Mom...Mom!! " I would have sworn on a stack of bibles he was standing right next to my bed calling me. But I checked and he was sound asleep in his own bed in his own room. I would have thought I was dreaming if this stuff didn't happen when I'm wide awake too. I've long ago (this started when I was very young) learned that everyone doesn't hear what I do and to not let it drive me crazy. It's like when I smell things no one else does, like food cooking or burning when no one is even in the kitchen. Does this happen to anyone else or is it really all in my head?????? Guest guest
OHMIGOSH! OHMIGOSH! This group never ceases to amaze me!! I always hear weird things like the radio stuff, but even more of a revalation to me is that Zoe, (My 9 yr. old) who hasn't been diagnosed but who I'm suspecting more and more has the monster, has been hearing voices ever since she was old enough to tell me! She'll hear me calling her when I'm not, she'll hear whole roomfuls of people laughing, all kinds of different things! I personally have the smell thing, I can smell a gas leak before anyone I know! Once at a party I kept insisting and EVERYONE else said " No way! " but I bugged them until they called the gas man and they all sat there smugly giggling until he came out of the kitchen and said, " yep, it was a bad one too! " HA! Andre also has extremely heightened senses, especially hearing and smell! SO...count us in! Guest guest
Janet and all- Glad to see this happens to other people. There was an explanation when it was an allergic reaction to the anti depressant. I will hear my hubby call me and he did not. Usually there are other noises going on when it happens, but I will hear the phone ringing sometimes. Really pretty creepy. Sometimes I think I will see someone out of the corner of my eye, but when I turn there is no one there. Do do do do! Guest guest
I too hear weird things and ask " what? " when noone has said a word to me! I sometimes see a white figure out of the corner of my eye or a dark figure scurry along the floor. I thought my house was just haunted, but this is too big of a coincidence! Guest guest
Hello, I have a keen sense of smell, hearing, and can spot things from a seated position... I assume this is because my sense of touch/balance/position/temp., and ability to walk has become less or distorted... like a blind person's other senses become more acute with the loss of site, the senses I do have became more relied upon when I began losing the tactile senses and mobility. I am constantly amazed at how oblivious " normal " (physically/healthwise) people are to their surroundings. And the older a Chiarian is when symptoms get bad, the harder it is to adjust (though that too depends on your personality, and how you adapt to anything new)... if you are used to striding full steam ahead, it is really hard to take soft steps, looking for pitfalls you used to barrel over, evern knowing what they are until you've had a few pratfalls. Also considering all that is going on inside our heads our senses can easily have physical pressures creating odd reactions in our bodies. Some folk will view this situation as an inconvenient limitation, others will view it as a chance to experience life from another perspective... most of us start with the former and work toward the latter, though when I'm feeling like death warmed over it is hard to be thinking at all!
