As far as I know, Dr. Fox procedure is the same bypass length (max 40

in or 100 cms of comon chanel ), and smaller stomach... so, I think

Dr. Fox is more radical due to smaller stomach (less digestion)

Hi , I have actually already seen my Ohio guy for my one year

follow up. I probably won't be traveling to Seattle to see Dr. Fox, due

to money. Do you know if he does follow-up visits when he comes to

Alaska? I do know he comes here every so often and does presentations.

I see my PCP here, but he is somewhat clueless sometimes. One of his

other patients is a Dr. Fox WLS person, so he gets pretty good

instructions for blood tests and such.

My surgeon was Dr. Spiers from Springfield Ohio. As far as I can

tell he did a good job, my only complaints are that he was a little

brusque in manner, and denies that his patients get gas. As far as I

can tell from the surgical report all but 6 feet of my intestines are

bypassed. The surgery report reads " the small bowel was traced down to

the ligament of Treitz. Then, approximately six feet distal to the

ligament of Treitz, the small bowel was transected using a GIA stapler. "

I have actually had a pretty easy time of my surgery. I lost 105 pounds,

I am holding steady at about 20 to 30 (depending on the chart in

question) over my ideal weight, but I am happy where I am. I wear 12's

and 14's on pants. I can eat pretty much whatever I want, and I can eat

the amount that a normal skinny person does. I do not get sick on meat,

rice or pasta. I do dump sporadically on sugary items. Milk products

give me gas and the " I gotta go now " bowel movements. This came in handy

after my hernia repair 2 weeks ago, you know how bound up the pain

killers make ya.

Since you see Dr. Fox fairly frequently, you may want to let him know his

number listing in the ASBS is not correct, and ask him if he sees follow

up patients here in Anchorage or if they have to go to Seattle. Also

tell him THANK YOU, for letting my PCP know the correct treatment regime

and dosage to solve the stinky problem.

Thanks

Gear

Kathy it is wonderful to have you with us. Eva

Hi everyone.

My name is Kathy.

I learned about Intuitive Eating via a Weight Watchers message board. I have lost 75 pounds in the last year and a half. When I recently found myself feeling the same fears and anxieties about food, (eating when I am not hungry and gaining weight back,) I knew something was still not right within me. I long to have a healthy relationship with food. And although I have released a great deal of weight, and I feel so proud of my accomplishment, I want to be free from the fears I have regarding food. My doctor told me yesterday that I will always need to think about food, and I appreciate that, because I don't want to think I will be the "exception to the rule" (the girl who was over weight and is now thin and can eat whatever she wants, whenever she wants, take or leave exercise and never be overweight again.) And yet, I want to know I CAN eat whatever I want, whenever I am hungry....and not fear loss of control.

What I appreciate most about IE is that is helps awaken my awareness to the moment. I ask myself, "Are you hungry? What do you want to eat? Are you still hungry? How does the food taste?"

I am hoping for change. I am in the process of change. I am encouraged and I appreciate the support from others like you who share in these issues.

Hi Kathy!

Welcome to our group! My doctor freaked me out at my last visit by suggesting to me that I eat only "natural" foods, ie making my own granola and not eating any processed foods. The mere thought of the effort I would've had to put into this type of diet just makes me want to binge! I am going to tell her all about my intuitive eating the next time I see her. Hopefully she will understand that you can't tell someone who struggles with emotional eating and extreme dieting that she needs to restrict herself MORE to become healthy!
