Guest guest
You mentioned we just blow it off as more Fibro when we have symptoms or pain and I wanted to tell everyone how true and how dangerous that is. Last winter as I was walking thru the check out at a store, I bumped my midsection on the counter and felt a really sharp pain. Since I am in pain nearly all the time anyway, I just thought it was a Fibro thing even tho it was in a weird place. I avoided touching the sore spot so I wouldn't cause myself more pain. A couple of months later I had emergency surgery for gall bladder. It was a very serious, life threatening procedure.....a stone had become lodged in a duct, the duct had split and there was infection all thru my abdomen. I actually had started feeling less pain and the doc explained it was because the nerve endings had started to die. Needless to say, after a week in the hospital and a long recuperation, I no longer blame everything on the Fibro and will have things checked if I ever have another " strange " sore spot or painful area. Guest guest
Wow Louise, thank God everything turned out ok.. I know what you mean about blaming all the weird pains on the fibro.. I am having alot of " female problems " and I think it probably would be wise to see a doctor because these are really bizare and scary symptoms going on.. I always think it is fibro but you definelty openned my eyes to see that maybe I better get it checked out.. Thank you so much and again, I am glad that you are ok Terri
Guest guest
Thank you Pam for the information about the ovarian cysts.. I will definetly have to bring this up to the doctor. I always debate (and hate )making doctors appointment.. Usually because I am scared to death. And then going thru the 22 doctors and what feels like a hundred tests to get the official diagnosis of fibro, this is another reason why I hate going to doctors.. Again thank you for the information. Terri

When you do, ask to be checked for a condition known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). I am also on a PCOS list and many of the ladies on that list, along with myself, also have FMS/CFS. For some reason, it seems to be one of those diseases that tags along together. Guest guest
Hi, Once you have seen your PCP, nutritionist and psych all the paperwork goes to Marina at Kaiser SSF (Marina is a Kaiser employee). Sounds like that's where you are now. I would call your PCP to find out when the paperwork was sent and then call Marina to verify it was rec'd. I have had problems the last couple of months with the psych eval. My PCP never rec'd it and sent what paperwork she had to SSF, after many calls to the lady who did the eval, my PCP and Marina -- FINALLY, Marina has rec'd the eval and now my paperwork is being processed correctly! (hopefully!) and I will (hopefully!) know on Monday if I have been approved. You need to keep on them. Don't slip through the cracks. Good Luck! ~ > I have been checking in for about a month now. Guest guest
Here’s the Kaiser process below. All referrals are sent to SSF first and then at that time, the determination is made as to which facility your case will be sent. Congratulations on your decision for a healthy life and keep us posted on your progress. This email group will give you lots of support and information. We are glad you are here! Once all your evaluations are complete and back to your PCP, the next step is to have your PCP submit the referral to the Bariatric Program in SSF. If you can, try and get a copy of all the paperwork that is submitted with your referral. I explain why in a minute. Once your referral is submitted by your PCP, wait about 2 weeks and then call Marina Berman () in SSF. She is one of the coordinators there and will know if your paperwork has been received. Call her and confirm the receipt of paperwork. Sometimes things get dropped through the cracks so you want to make sure you are not waiting for something to happen and it doesn't! If there is a problem, you will have the copies of the paperwork you can fax to her. Although the steps are slightly different for each facility they pretty much follow a similar path to the one below. Once the paperwork is received, the steps are like this: Approval Orientation Surgeon Appt. Pre-op Appt. Surgery Plan on about 3 months between each step. The entire process takes about a year. I know, I know, it's a long time but believe me it will pass quickly and you can use the time to learn more about the process, the life after surgery and get lots of support so you are ready when your time comes. Hugs, Pat B. Hello I have been checking in for about a month now. I have only just begun this process. I have seen the dietician and the psychiatrist. My understanding is that after my pcp gets the psychiatrists report my referral will then go to a Kaiser committee for approval. I am trying to get a better understanding of the process. Where does " Marina " come in this process? Is she a Kaiser employee or with Pacific Bariatrics? Just a little confused?? Thanks for all the good information so far -- I am really enjoying " I'm still hungry " . Also, a while ago someone was looking to get a support group meeting started in the Antioch area - that would be great - count me in! Guest guest
Welcome to the group J'net! Someone recently posted (I think it was to this group) that you can press 0 at some point during the voicemail message or something and get a real person on the phone. Does anyone else remember exactly how that goes? If no one else posts about it, I'll see if I cannot find that somewhere for you. Please feel free to post your questions, concerns, advice, whatever to the group . . . or just continue to lurk and gather information. You are welcome either way! :0) Hugs, Jen -72 lbs!! jnetg60 wrote: I joined the group about a month ago but I have not posted anything, I have just been reading and finding out all kinds of things that have helped me and has made me excited for when it will be my turn. I went down to San Diego on Aug 15th for my consult but I still have not gotten my date. I have been trying to call them but I have gotten no call back, which has made me very frustrated. I'm not sure how to call and actually get to talk to a person. The process has been so lone for me (at least it feels that way) and the waiting now has seemed to be the hardest part. I've been very thankful that I hav been able to learn and read all of your postings, Thank you. J'net
Guest guest
Thanks for all the information. I have tried calling PB again today and I did the zero thing. I got a person, I was happy to actually get a real person, it was not Cheryl and she said that Myla was not at her desk to leave a voice mail, I told her I had left several but left one more. If I don't hear today I will call again tomorrow and ask for Cheryl. Yikes, they have always been so good at calling me back up to this point. I would feel so much better just knowing my date. This is a great group and I can tell you all care for each other.
