The Pharmacist is compounding a liquid CO Q-10 that we administer through

Trevor's Mic-Key. Since he takes it that way, the " pleasant tasting flavor "

isn't necessary, therefore possibly making the compound a bit less

expensive. A 30 day supply at 60 mg twice daily is $40.00 at the Wal-Mart

pharmacy. We, like almost everyone else, have had no luck in persuading

medical coverage to help in the expense.

We did also get the liquid once but found it to be so thick and it was crystallizing so it was not so easy to get through the gtube. I have tried to get my insurance to pay for it and they say no, oh well. Now I am getting it through our pharmacist and paying myself. She got a tablet we are crushing ( Miranda is Gtube fed) and it has not been so easy getting it in. It seems to just settle like sand rather than dissolve. I am going to get a capsule next time to see if that is water soluble. It is running us about $30 a month through the pharmacy. The liquid we got through the internet was way more expensive. If anyone has a suggestion of a Gtube friendly CoQ10, I am all ears!!

I'm not sure how much a " month " is in ounces, but you might check:

http://www.epic4health.com/liquidcoq10.html

There type is specifically designed for feeding tubes, or so they

claim. I'm not a user or an advocate, just trying to answer the

question.

I live in Canada so I'm not sure you can get the brand we use, but we

use " Exact " capsules. 30 mg capsules. They dilute fairly easily in

water and we do put them though a g-tube and so far haven't had any

problem.

Manufacturer is " Sunfresh Limited " Surrey BC, Canada. V4N

Was forwarded this info about getting suppliments free. I have not yet contacted them myself but intend to. It is worth a try.

This is an organization that gives you the suppliments you need free.

Tammy:

Depending on what you want, you can get CoQ10 from your local pharmacy or I

get mine from our local health food store. I get Country Life. I know

pricing defers from state to state. Right now I get two bottles for about

$28. There are 30 capsules in each bottle. They are the water soluble

kind. I cut it open and squeeze the gel into a shot glass. I mix her liquid

Carnitor with it and then syringe it into my daughter's mouth. She is now

getting to the point that she doesn't like the taste and cries after I give

it to her. But the syringe is the fastest way for me in her mouth and it

goes down her throat. I've been mixing a little chocolate pedisure with it.

But that only helps a little with taste. And the reason insurance won't pay

for it is because it is an over the counter supplement and insurance doesn't

pay for that stuff even when you send them information from your doc with a

copy of the physician's manual that indicates that vitamins are necessary for

treatment. I have even tried to tell them this is medically necessary for my

daugther to survive. But they only go by what they are allowed to give. May

be some day that will change. But keep on fighting. Who knows, may be

something may come out of it. Maybe talk with someone higher up.

Tammy, I buy the store brand of CoQ10 at my local health food store. I pay

$50 for 240 30mg capsules. Chelsea takes 90mg/day and I take 30mg and this

lasts about 2 months. I was giving her a liqiud version made by Innovative

Products, but it was $35 for an 8oz bottle, which lasted about 6wks an a 60

mg/day dose. there seemed to be no difference betwwen the two and the

capsules I buy are very water soluble. The store that I buy from is Harvest

Health, but I think that is only local. Good luck, I hope you find a way to

get your CoQ10. We feel it has done Chelsea a lot of good.

I do have a question about Coq10 off this subject. I suffer from eczema,

which is autoimmune. Coq10 is listed as a good supplement to take for this

condition. But someone mentioned since Coq boosts the immune system, could it

cause my eczema to flare. Has anyone noticed that autoimmune disorders flared

when taking CoQ10? Hope this is not too intrusive!

Hi e :-)

I may be wrong, and hope someone will correct me if I am, but I don't

think CoQ has any impact on the immune system at all actually. It

helps with the processing of energy through the cells and there is some

"healing" component to it (trying to say that its supposed to help actually

repair damage thats been done already), but not any immune boosting properties

that I am aware of.

There are some that have myositis, which is assumed to be potentially

autoimmune in nature that are taking CoQ also, so I think your safe there.

I have yet to hear about any contraindications when there is an autoimmune

issue happening. Its also been recommended for psoriasis which is

a bit more positively autoimmune.

Hope this helps and I am not totally off base!! LOL

BIG hugs,

Kass
