That is a joke I hope, that is the kind of résistance I fought in the 60's when

trying to get the curtains out of the funeral home ambulances and a nice set of

ems equipment installed. I remember one funeral home operator claimed the milk

trucks did not have window so the public could not see what was going on in

there while we were killing their family, talk about the skillet calling the

kettle black. I hope this was a joke but understanding burocrats I realize it

might be a new classification of government helping you with tax dollars.

Remember this really happened 30 years ago in some major cites.

Lets' see, I believe that the 150 was taken out of context. Typically it

takes 150 or more QUALIFIED applicants to get a recruit class of 20-30

people. The written test was administered a few weeks ago and there were

approximately 1000 who took the test. By the time you take the top 150

applicants, put them through the background check, physical agility and

medical (plus whatever else they are doing now-a-days) you may only get

20-30 people that will make up the training class.

Good point, that's actually very true.. I had forgotten about that

part. Out of the top 150 (taken out of these aprox 1200 who tested,

all listed here:

http://www.fortworthgov.org/hr/firetest.asp#A )

the 150 chosen will still have to go through physicals and

background tests..

A friend of mine is ranked 96, that's the only reason I get to hear

about the current FW hiring process all the time..

Steph

(and yay, I just got my NR EMT-B results a few days ago, I passed!)

I know for a fact that MedStar's contract is being sold to a Chinese EMS

consortium started by Jack Stout, Tony Myers and No Chow Sing, the Chinese

EMS czar. They plan to replace the ambulances with rickshaws and cut down on

transportation costs, while raising the subsidy by 65%. This will be a pilot

project and if it works it will be expanded into the Oklahoma City, Tulsa,

Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Bejing markets. The transfer will take place on

Lantern Festival, February 15, which is the 15th day of the Chinese new year

which was Feb 1 this year. This is the Year of the Ram, and as soon as the

animals can be trained, medics will be replaced with goats.

I started out as a junior member of a rescue squad in the late 70's, and as

an EMT for the same service. We had 4 Cadillacs, 2 Modulance type I's, and

a Heavy Squad (rescue truck). The Caddies were AWESOME in the ride and

top-end side of things, but they were just a LITTLE cramped on the work room

side of the coin. I did love them, though...

My only question is this:

If you do not work for an agency, then why do you care what happens for that

agency.

As for Medstar making their times, as far as I know we do a pretty good job

at it. However, there are times that we may only have say 14 trucks on the

streets and get like 20 calls. Anytime we are level 0 it is hard to make

times. But that goes anywhere you are. If your service only staffs 2

trucks and gets 4 calls the last two are going to be waiting a little bit.

But I guess I don't have to worry about that now, since the funeral home is

going to take it over, and I will be at Mc's. :-) Think I should

start practicing now, " Would you like fries with that? " or " would you like

2 apple pies for a $1? " Dang I don't need another stinking uniform to

worry about.
