Guest guest
Hi All, Could someone let me know exactly what the expenses are for staying in the hotel, meals for family, etc. were? I am just trying to figure out how much it would cost me out of my own pocket to have Dr. R do my surgery. I would like for any of you to let me know of any of the side effects that you are having post-surgery. I have heard so many good things, but want to go into this with my eyes wide open and would like to know the unpleasant things that go along with this surgery. Has anyone's hair fallen out? This is a side effect that people may have, as far as I have read. My cardiologist told me today that he would not have any problems with me having this surgery. I thought maybe he would try to talk me out of it. To my surprise, he backed me up. He treats me for high cholesterol. He knows my medical history and knows how I have struggled with my weight. He is going to try to find a dr. in N.O. to do my surgery. I know he will try to find a good surgeon. Meanwhile, I am still contemplating going to Dr. R. It would just be really expensive for the trip because as I understand you have to go on a Sat., have surgery on Mon. and see him again on the next Sat. That is 9 nights at a hotel. I love this group and love reading all of your emails. I am trying to get used to all of your names. It makes me want the surgery more and more every time I read your notes. Everyone seems sooooooooo happy!!!!!!! I want to be in the gang too!!!!!!! I am not happy right now!!!!!!!! H. in La.
Guest guest
, I'm getting ready to go for surgery on 8/9 and looking for the " cheapest " way to stay. I will stay at Crossland Economy Suites (or something like that) it is the " economy " version of the Extended Stay America line which has 3 " levels of comfort " . I booked a room/suite for 2 people for 9 nights ......1 double bed would have been $220 plus tax, I requested 2 double beds and they gave me a rate of $279 plus tax. Thats $31 a night and about the least expensive I could find. Guest guest
Amy (and all) The Crossland is definetly a deal, but be wary of places that have the best prices because often you will find yourselves 20 minutes from the hospital (at least!) and easily making up the $5 or $10 difference in traveling back and forth a few times a day. Crossland is on a busy fast food alley...don't think they have a pool (but they might), but it is a good 20 minutes away from Dr. R and the hospital...(weigh the rental car and gas to see if you're not better off closer). just stayed at Studio Plus, a bit closer but with a LOT more room for @$45 a night. Hawthorne Suites is near Crossland. Also, always call whatever hotel you are booking and mention you are a medical stay and they should offer a 10% discount (if they don't, then hang up and call 1-800 MEDSTAY and book it through them...they will get you the deal) Good luck! Guest guest
Amy: Also, the going rate much closer to Dr R for those standard one room suites that are popular now is about $300 a week and that should be 2 beds, with a kitchenette area and abth and eating area. Janet stayed in one (can't remeber the name) and there's Extended Stay and Home something-Homewood maybe? right near the mall and movies for only a few dollars more a day...You might want to think about them instead. Guest guest
, I saw the layout and explanation of Crossland on the Extended Stay web site where it asks :What's the difference " or something like that. It has a kitchenette area with dorm size frig and micro and coffee maker...and I think a hot plate or something...I'm probably going with it and hope I don't regret it....I requested two double beds as my sister will be with me and I am sure we will compete for snorer of the year and I want to be sure I can toss and turn if need be. Guest guest
I stayed at the Extended Stay near the mall and thought it was nice. I paid $240 for the week. It was about three miles from the hospital. It had a kitchen also. Vicki At 03:03 PM 8/3/99 -0500, you wrote: >From: stevie@...
