Guest guest
Becky, Type 2 here. In general, in the past, exercise has helped me maintain muscle and even build muscle. Of course, I have not done much regular exercise in the last 10 years (since kids were born - too busy and too tired.) My progression over the last 2 years has accelerated from what it was before. I feel like I need exercise. Ruth >From: " Maxwell " <rmax@...> >Reply-egroups ><egroups> >Subject: [] Curious Q about exercise and types >Date: Wed, 6 Sep 2000 01:43:58 -0500 > > > > I'm curious. Some can exercise and not lose muscles, others like me >excerise and lose fast. Could this have to do with type 1 Myelin, verses >type 2 Axonal? I'm type 2. So lets hear from each of you, your type, and >if exercise helps or causes progression of muscle loss. ~>Becky M. >(p.s. See what I mean , I'm full of em! Exercise doesn't cause muscle loss for me, but does cause rapid muscle weakness! Type 2. I have well-developed calves and all the rest, and none are losing size, just strength. I LOOK about the same as I have for 30 years, as far as my muscles are concerned, although I think my hands may be getting thin. Kat

Just running a house with children in it is getting a lot of exercise, and may be what is accelerating your CMT. Or, you may be programmed to have the acceleration at that time of your life. We do seem to have internal clocks with minds of their own (to mix a couple of metaphors. LOL) Stress or trauma can upset that. My 2 cents worth. Guest guest
Thanks Kat, I KNOW stress has taken its toll. I'm trying to get back to some sort of exercise that will work for me now. What used to work well doesn't anymore. But I'm having a hard time making exercise (whatever it ends up being) a priority. Gotta keep working on that one. Just like I decided to make the list a priority again. One thing at a time! Big hug to all. Ruth >From: KathleenLS@... >Hi Ruth. Guest guest
Hi Becky and all, exercise? LOL I find it very difficult to exercise, the pain and fatigue has put a damper on that portion of my life for now. I am still trying to get the pain under control. However I do go to Hydrotherapy 2x weekly. I have found the water help take the load off and the heat helps relax the muscles so I can do an hour twice a week. I have a PT who works with me and this seems to help. By-the-way, Becky I have type 1A. Hope this helps your survey, please let us all know how it comes out. thanks. jr PS Sorry I went on and on.
