Which test consistently comes back wrong???? And in what way???? We just got the results back from GPL and we had the OATs done and the gluten casein peptide tests. Nothing like hearing they are not accurate after spending $350 on them. Can someone fill me in so I don't feel like it was a COMPLETE waste of money!!! We are getting ready to collect our sons urine for the GPL organic acid test tomorrow. So, you're saying this is a good test, but doctors have a difficult time interpreting the results. We tried to collect urine for the amino acid test for Great Smokies, and failed miserably. Those darn u-bags were a waste of time. I managed to collect 3 urine samples, the rest leaked into the diaper. Can't you test a childs plasma for the amino acid test, and if so, why do the urine? a
Guest guest
Holly, thanks for the info....was getting ready to do some testing on our son. The problem is now.........is there ANYBODY that does accurate, honest, reliable testing? Or should we just go on our own " instinct " and blindly try to treat Dylan ourselves? We are doing the GFCF diet and some supplements already. I, too, am confused now......and I don't trust anybody anymore! Not talking about you!! LOL So what would you advise?????? Thanks for any help.
Guest guest
Wow Holly, This is a big can of worms. Please keep us all posted as I am sure you will. Thank you so much for checking this out. My sons eyes have been itching so much He is so miserable that I have been giving him claritin syrup. I hate to but I thought maybe allergy. Guess what, it doesn't work so I thought it was yeast coming back. In fact I am almost sure of it. I am going to elimate sugar again completely and increase his biotin. We shall see Juli

Can anyone tell me what that means in relation to the above post?
Guest guest
Oh honey, this can has been opened off and on for 2 years, we're just revisiting again. There has been a big discussion on the SD list (pretty medical list) about all the different labs, people's experiences with them, doctor's experiences, and doctor critiques of them. Solid medical information hurts this lab the most. One doctor sent split samples to a number of labs and the only one that consistently messed up was GPL. These same doctors - who know their autism stuff - also think the interpretations are inventive but not at all medically sound. That should make people think. I am not telling anyone to do or not do any testing but maybe do some research about the issue before you test since it's likely that you will be the one interpreting the tests anyway. Guest guest
Holly et al.. I have to tell you I am not happy with any labs, after my son had about 1/2 of his bodies blood contents removed, just to be told " Nothing looks wrong..(and we KNEW he had a yeast problem) I skip the testing, as long as the treatment is safe...Who needs an idea of where your kid stands, if half the time you don't get the right info? I wouldn;t be surprised if my husband got a positive pregnancy test back from some of these labs :0)-Shari
Guest guest
You can do the stool sample through Great Smokies if the urine isn't what you want to do. It's gross, but it will tell you what is in the stools. I have the same dilemma with my son who was on antibiotics for several years until we eliminated dairy. We gave him lots of acidolpholus, some herbs, & homeopathics as needed, so I don't know if this is a problem for him or not. But we continue to supplement off & on the acidolpholus (when dh remembers!). His Great Plains test that was done 3 years ago didn't indicate yeast & one of the elevations Shaw said could indicate slightly elevated yeasts. Great Smokies is probably your best bet. I know many kids have seen improvements with the Nystatin and/or Diflucan and I believe the parents who see the changes in front of their eyes. I wholeheartly believe it is NOT a scam, just an appropriate intervention in some children, esp. with loose stools & lots of antibiotics. Just don't know if its for my child since his stools have been formed for years since taking out the dairy & no antibiotics. As usual, no clear cut black & white answer here! Janice >Hi >... I am confused. Do you buy into the whole yeast problem/nystasin etc? Is >it a scam to make $$ off of us sad parents? >
