Laurie,

Thank you for the update. I'm sorry you ended up having to have surgery but I don't blame you for doing the surgery. I couldn't live with the pain either. I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Laurie,

I am so sorry you have to go through surgery. I can understand

why you opted for that though. By the sounds of things, it is the best

choice for you. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Does this mean you will have to be off work until after the surgery?

Too bad they can't do it sooner. That's a looooong time to wait.

Hoping and praying the surgery will repair the problem and that you

will have a smooth recovery.

Take care,

Barbara

Thanks!

The pain is bad enough, but the lack of function is worse. I can't fix mito dysfunction, but can try to fix this.

Laurie,

I'm really sorry that surgery is now in the picture as

this is a trauma to the system but continual pain is

trauma too. January 14th. seems to be a long wait

when you are in pain.

Hugs...I know this is was not in your plans. Try to

be well rested and enjoy the holidays because your

surgery will be soon after it.

I imagine that there will be a period of therapy after

the surgery. Does this mean you will be out of

school until at least March?

Thanks for the big hug. I love hugs.

Typing is one thing I can do without much pain. Mouse work is hard, but as long as I pace myself, I can type.

I will probably be off school 4-8 weeks. I will have therapy until the surgery and then after for some time. The 14th was the first opening the surgeon had. He is good and therefore in demand.

The pain is in a manageable range as long as I don't try to do things that I shouldn't. I've made it two months already and this is about the same with a lower pain level. The therapy helps to keep the pain level in an acceptable range.

I am planning to return to work next Wed. and then I will be off after the surgery. This will give me a chance to organize things for my sub. It will also allow me to return before time for all the IEPs in the spring - goodie!

I won't be lucky enough to have it done laproscopically. Mine is a large tear and they will have to separate a muscle to get to the tear. It is the most invasive type of surgery for a rotator cuff tear - of course. I'm ready to face the hard work it will take to rehab it.

I'm glad your friend has done well with her surgeries and that she will be more functional and have less or no pain.

Thanks for your caring.

Laurie,

I'm sorry to hear that you are headed for surgery, but given the options I

think I would have chosen the same. My very best friend just made it

through her second rotator cuff surgery. Now that they are done

laproscopically there is a lot less trauma and shortened recovery

period.....I hope yours is an easy one!

Hi

I just returned from the orthopedic doctor's office and have surgery

scheduled for Jan. 14th on the torn rotator cuff. It is a large tear. I had

a choice of surgery or living with the current pain and function which I

really can't do, so I opted for the surgery.

Dear Laurie:

I wish you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery!

My former massage therapist teacher had the surgery when she was 60 years old. Granted, she did not have mito...but she had a significant tear. The rehab afterward makes all the difference. I will be thinking of you!

Thanks for the good wishes.

They are more concerned about the mito than my age, but my PT thinks I will do fine with the rehab. If it had to happen, I'm glad it is now and not down the road when I have weakness in my arms.

Hi Laurie, I have been a bit behind in reading. Sorry to hear that

your injury requires surgery. Why are they waiting so long to do

it? or is it a personal choice to put off after the holidays?

The surgeon has the operating room reserved for Tuesdays, and he is booked until then. I would have done it this week, if I could have. Since it will be inpatient, I really don't have a choice. If out-patient, it would probably have been this week as we have two out-patient surgery centers in town.
