Guest guest
It was beautiful . Gave me goosebumps. Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. We have had beautiful, high 80's weather and now it is in the low 60's and suppossed to freeze tonight. Had to haul the jeans and sweaters out again. sees his Rheumotologist tomorrow. He is suppossed to go completely off Prednisone to try and help his hip joint. This is good news I know, but makes me very nervous. Now his little system has to work right this time!!! Hugs to all, Cari >From: anzavic@... >Reply-To: OurMyositis >To: OurMyositis >Subject: Re: Happy Day After Easter Card >Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 20:20:12 -0700 (PDT) > > > >... thank you for the beautiful card. Guest guest
Hi Cari...I didn't know that has a problem with his hip joint. Is it related (I'm sure it is) to his DM? I'll keep him in my thoughts. Annette Re: Happy Day After Easter Card >Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 20:20:12 -0700 (PDT) > > > >... thank you for the beautiful card. Guest guest
Annette, developed Avascular Necrosis in his R)hip due to extended Prednisone use. Fatty tissue has developed, cutting off the one vessel that feeds the hip socket. The top of 's femur is a little rough looking but the bone hasn't started showing any dead spots yet. We are taking him off Prednisone to stop the development of the fatty deposit and hoping that his body will absorb that fatty deposit before permanent damage occurs. Because of his age, he would not be able to have hip replacement surgery for many years. We lowered his Pred. usage about 6 weeks ago and he hasn't complained of pain in his hip for a few weeks. Or, I should probably say, I haven't noticed him limping or walking funny in the past few weeks. rarely ever complains. He will limp around outside trying his best to keep up with all the neighbor kids. One afternoon about a month ago I knew he was hurting because he was really limping around outside. The dozen or so kids that all play together decided to play soccer in someone's backyard. They all took off at the same time in the same direction. had had it trying to keep up. I just happened to be looking out the window. stood there and then sat down on the curb with his head in his hands and cried. As his parents, it is always a hard call. If we called him inside he would stand at the window and cry because he wasn't being allowed to join in. We have learned to let him make the decision of when enough is too much. He came in a few minutes later and asked if he could take a warm bath. We have a whirlpool tub and that really seems to help his hip. I had dried my tears by then. It's tough sometimes. If ever complains I know he is really, really hurting. Fern and Mike have also developed Avascular Necrosis in a hip joint. Not everyone who takes Prednisone develops this.
