ANNOUNCEMENT

Advocacy strengthening for the Indian national response to HIV/AIDS:

Release of The Power to Change, Constella Futures' advocacy training

manual.

The Power to Change is a training manual developed to strengthen

advocacy capacity for India's HIV/AIDS response. It was developed

through the Essential Advocacy Project (EAP) as part of Avahan, the

India AIDS Initiative of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Avahan is a

comprehensive HIV prevention programme working with 290,000 sex

workers, men who have sex with men and injecting drug users in India's

six high prevalence states.

The manual has been used successfully to build HIV advocacy capacity in India

with State AIDS Control Societies and their partner NGOs and

Avahan and its partner organizations in the states of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu,

Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Manipur and Nagaland.

The Power to Change uses a strategic approach to advocacy with a range

of stakeholders including the police, health service providers,

faith-based organizations and communities of at risk groups.
