Why does there always have to be somebody to ruin it for everyone or

just cause gas? I don't get it sometime. Whoever did it, you're no

better than some of these challenged callers we have!

Sorry to hear that ! Some of us here hope you are able to once

again talk to us.

Small minded fools always ruin things for the rest. You have to ask

yourself what is in it for them. I guess they get some perverted

satisfaction in knowing they did not let someone get away with

" it. " Unfortunately " it " is defined by ignorance, fear, pettiness,

jealousy, and prejudice. All the qualities prized by the miscreant, and

despised by the decent. Sophocles said, " trust dies but mistrust

blossoms " How true, and how sad.

I think the sneakiness of doing it is totally wrong. I know that administration

here at my center subscribes to the list and reads the posts. I also know that

i am free to say what I want provided i am not giving away critical information.

I do not think it is a bad thing for administration to see. Sometimes they will

see something and say " hey great idea " . I have never been blasted for a post on

here either positive and negative. What kills me is that some YAHOO had to send

it behind your back to your boss - That's a real kicker - I hope your boss

understands. With the stress factor of this job sometimes you need to vent and

that should not be condemned by anyone

Well gang, I did find out who made the copy and sent it to the sheriff, and

it was someone from my agency. isn't that sad!! Ce la vie i guess..... the

venting didn't mention any names, and they should have known I wasn't venting

about them.. and all it was was venting.. I must have had a bad night that

particular night. I still think it was pretty sneaky tho.. and lame!!! don't

know if they still subscribe to the list or not, im sure they are, maybe to

get more dirt on me dunno.. thats ok.. I can just change my screename and sign

off on that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! hehe on top of that, the whole office knows

the sheriff received a copy.....even more lame I think

This whole saga has been very sad. I remember when I first joined this list

maybe 3 years ago someone commented that you never know who is on the list. I

kinda kept that in the back of my mind mainly because I didn't want any problems

from my job -- and I used to work with some pretty mean-spirited people. So if

I had a major issue to vent or ask about I wrote people I trusted off line.

What would concern me about something like this is if someone would back-stab a

co-worker by doing something that mean spirited, what else would they do? Could

you really trust that person with anything else? If you had a personal issue

come up, say a death in the family, and had to work directly with that person,

could you trust them if a private moment came up on the job? Could you trust

them with something job related? I couldn't -- if someone stabs me in the back

I'd wonder if it was going to hit again -- either me or someone else.

When I was reading all the posts about this, one thing that really struck

me is that you must work for a great guy. The Sheriff had the good sense to

see that you were venting and probably thought less of the cad that brought

it to him. I'd say they did more harm to themselves than they did to you.

Isn't it interesting that free expression is being stifled by fear of

retribution, punishment, and secret spies who take on the role of

censor. Sort of reminds you of some other places where we have made great

sacrifices to protect their people from just the same thing. It might

benefit some to re-read the Constitution, and appreciate the right to

freely express opinions; even ones you do not like. Perhaps they would be

more comfortable dispatching somewhere for a secret police. However, they

would have to give up the benefits of a free society they want for

themselves, but not for others. Anyone want to contribute to the 30 Pieces

of Silver Fund so we can reward this fine citizen?

I just wanted to thank everyone for their support and their offlist emails.

I would be feeling alot worse if it weren't for you all here at the group..

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. Nothing is going to change, however the

Trust is gone.. Im going to continue to use the forum to vent my frustrations,

Im

just going to scream at the top of my lungs three or four times, do 150

situps, run a mile, THEN eat a box of chocolate donuts, before I start venting..

...

hehe Yea, that will help.. lol and also, just be careful what I say..

thanks again for all your emails.. My address book is growing..

also I guess It really made them mad when I signed Dallas County Sheriffs

Office.. so I guess I'll start having to add the my opinion only statement..

,

I thought you had become strangely quiet and it was sad to me because I for

one always enjoy your stories, quips and other news. You among about 4 others

I've met in my life (Liz Hill and two people I work with now) I've felt would

be so great writing a book on the history of dispatch, its foibles, ups, downs

and intrigues.....now the stupid or funny 911 calls but what we really have

going on for in and around us. Maybe you still will.

> <<The very first one - probably more than 3 years ago! - caused me to add

Hmmm, well THAT wouldn't be why the " strange " quiet from you now (uh oh, I've

said the " Q " word on a Sunday afternoon!)

> <<<Someone from another agency - not even a dispatcher - took offense to

Well I can understand someone on the outside looking in not understanding our

ways sometimes. I guess its kinda like the difference between night and day

shifts -- very different cultures, especially for people on nites who LOVE

them.

Ah yes, people who feel the need to check out other people's issues, etc.

See, you COULD have been the department " spokes-witch " because THAT sure

comes across like a witch hunt!!!!!!!

I'm glad it turned out to be total nothing. .... or at least exonerated.

<snip>

I've had two posts of mine used to " get me in trouble " - and neither events

were initiated by anyone in my department. The very first one - probably

more than 3 years ago! - caused me to add the disclaimer portion of my

signature line, where I USED to have the actual location of where I am very

proud to be [working] and what department I'm proud to serve. I used to

display the URL to our live CAD Traffic Incident Page, as well with every

post - but now my posts are just MY posts and MY opinion and hopefully

there won't be any " presumed official nexus " to my agency. I ain't the

department spokes-witch. Or what might rhyme with that. <grin>

Someone from another agency - not even a dispatcher - took offense to

something, the first time. Sent a letter with a copy of my post in it to

my Commander. At that time, my then-supervisor and I had .... well, let's

see..... an " uneasy " working relationship. I was asked what I was doing

" speaking for the department on the Internet " and directed to remove any

department references in my personal e-mails, anywhere. It was a

less-than-lovely counseling session, AND I had to write an apology to the

complainant " explaining " I had meant no disrespect to the department

mentioned in my post. (Wasn't even a slam, at that, folks - I'd " pasted " a

news article and asked the group what they thought of it!) Ahh well.

The most wonderful Captain in the entire department assumed Command a few

months later, transferring in from another Division. One of the things he

mentioned to me was that he'd noticed " his grey-eyed friend " was sure happy

to be SOMEWHERE and proud to serve SOMEBODY - someplace. Wherever that

was. <grin> He said it was too bad he'd not been the Commander when that

incident occurred, but it was probably best to continue to be " safe " from

the petty-minded " out there on the 'Net where they often lurk. "

The second incident occurred after TMWCITED retired. <sigh> And that

complaint went from a vendor (uh huh!) to HQ. The department computer guru

was directed to subscribe to the list, download every one of my posts from

the archives, and scrutinize them for " misconduct. " All those messages

(anybody notice how little I post now? Well, it's not ALL due to my cramped

schedule...) I was exonerated because:

1. Everything I'd said - equipment performance-wise - was fact.

2. Opinions I'd opined were clearly marked as such.

3. I had that oh-so-useful disclaimer in my signature line.

4. Both the " investigator " and HIS Commander - charged with reviewing the

complaint - know me rather well, professionally. ( " Outspoken, but not stupid. " )

4(a). They were relieved I'd not " put my foot in it " and effectively told

the complainant to pound sand. Oh, wait, I think they indicated I had done

nothing wrong.

5. I'm usually very careful about what I say. <dimpling>

I cherish this list, folks, and am forever grateful to Ken Handfield for

creating it.

Just know that there are humorless individuals " out there. " Also know that

even our good friends can have prickly moments and take offense at what

wasn't intended to offend. And sometimes we, ourselves, do " say " things

that aren't the most well-considered statements.

.....and to you evil, lurking, back-stabbing, " holier-than-thou " sneaky

bastids who just love getting folks in trouble for sumpin', I thumb my

virtual nose atcha!
