Guest guest
Michele, We have had both regular horse back riding lessons at a stable and a riding program at a stable specificallly for hippotherapy. While both are great there is a difference between the two. Checking with the doctor is a great idea. Sadly we stopped the hippotherapy because of the distance and the cost. There were a ferw people who had hippotherapy perscribed for PT. Try it. Good luck, Bonnie
Guest guest
Jody- With only 8 weeks, there aren't big noticeable changes. It's one time a week and we often miss a week or more for illness, other things that come up, whatever. I know that the experience has been beneficial from a sensory standpoint and certainly, for many motor areas. But I have no data-- just instinct from watching her participate. If I found a local stable to let us come ride for 30 min/wk, it'd probably be $15-20 so the cost isn't huge -- not compared to the cost of true hippotherapy. They charge so much more to have PTs there, credentialing, etc. This discussion is getting me motivated to call the dr to be sure it's ok with her hips and then see who I can find in town to work with us. I think it's great that you found a program that's relatively affordable so close to home! Michele W >

Guest guest
Bonnie- Yes, I'm sure there is a difference. If I had both available, it would be a consideration. Since I don't, it's a no-brainier. How's your back?? Michele W >
Guest guest
Sorry to hear that. I don't remember when your next dr visit is. Soon, I hope?? You were enjoying your job so much that it must be killing you to be home and to have your little guy turned over to someone else. Is someone keeping you up on his progress? Guest guest
Michele, The quickest appointment with a specialist who does this specific surgery I could get is the 4th. There is a doctor here who wanted to do it but he wasn't someone I trust. He was insulted when we said I wanted a second opinion. The procedure is through my neck. As we all know doctors aren't God but this one thought he was. I made my decision when he walked in my hospital room while a nurse was taking my blood pressure. Instead of waiting half a minute till she was done he made her stop and leave the room only to come back to finish later. That's the type we stay away from. I am more than saddened about my job. It's hard emotionally but I know his teacher does nothing but what is right for him. She is a gifted teacher but more than she has a gentle heart. It is the teacher who makes a great difference in his life. I just learned what she taught me and followed her lead. I am frustrated because I sit in my living room on a lazy boy. Sleep here too. But I can't complain. Patty's been through worse. Speaking of her she just came out of the bathroom dressed unbelievably. She is wearing girl clothes, makeup and a headband. Oh my does she look beautiful. And she is smiling and giggling. I told her she looks great and she said " Yea, I know. " That's my Patty! Guest guest
Well, I'm sorry for your pain and frustration -- but, boy, am I delighted for Patty! I just smile at the thought of it! Now she's reminding me more of Aubrie. I hope Aubrie never looses that delight she has in herself. I know much of that is her childish innocence, but I still hope she keeps it.
