Guest guest
A few more questions. For now that is. I've heard alot about the vomiting, and that is also something I'd really like to minimize if it all possible. I know that it will happen, but my question is how can I avoid it as much as I can? Will it just automatically kick in at a certian point (I've heard around 4 weeks, and Im at 3 weeks), or is it only when I try to add new foods, when something gets stuck, etc? Did anyone regress, I mean have foods that were ok suddenly become not ok later on? So far it seems that I've been eating alot of things that Im not supposed to, but I havent had any trouble with it. This week I got a tuna salad wrap at Subway. Just had cheese and mayo on it, and I ate it for lunch 3 days in a row. But it digested just fine. Any idea when I can start eating salads again? I got so sick of eating them when I was trying to diet on my own, now I miss it. Any advice is most welcome. Thanks again everyone. Guest guest
Hi Angie, We all want to minimize " dumping " . Sometime it can't be helped. Even 3 yrs out, I still have episodes now & then where I can eat something one day & try again a few days later & it will not agree with me. Salads are still hard for me to eat.....I love salads, but I can only eat very very little of them. So, what I do when I want one is pack them with protein so I won't have a problem. Can't eat a lot of veggies....can't eat most Chinese food anymore (Boo Hoo)....Pasta & rice I can eat very little of. (My pouch won't let me eat a lot, still.....Which I think is cool!! ) Hamburger is minimal. Candy & sweets are no problem for me, so I have to watch them. Best thing to do is follow your doctor protocol on what to eat & what not to eat & how much. As you get farther out & are able to eat more you can, what I like to call it is " testing your pouch " , see how it likes different foods. It's a whole new way of learning to eat. Hope this helps you. Take care, Barb iowa_girl32 wrote: A few more questions. For now that is. Guest guest
Hi Barb, speaking of getting sick, I was sick during the night last night. Before bed I had two sips of tomato juice, but it tasted funny. When I checked the date it was April 2005! Guess I need to clean out my cupboards more often. Anyway, about 12:30 am I woke up in misery. It was very hard to breath cause of all this Phelm in my throat, and in the back of my throat it felt like a ball of burning acid. Very metallic taste, strong and nasty. I ended up vomiting (sorry if thats too many details) but didnt bring much of anything up. After that the burning gradually went away, but the phelm still made me wheeze. Every time I coughed I'd gag. Is that a normal " dumping " or do you think it was from the bad tomato juice? It was horrible! I feel ok today, tired, but not sick anymore. I didnt eat anything new yesterday, but I didnt know if maybe something got stuck. In any event, I hope it never happens again. It was very scarey when I felt like I couldnt breath. Iowa girl > > Hi Angie, > > We all want to minimize " dumping " . Sometime it can't be helped. Guest guest
At the time, I could barely gasp for breath over the burning and trying to make it to the bathroom. There was no way I'd have been able to get some Tums down before I got sick. I will get some though, in case it happens again. I sure hope not, it was nasty and scarey. In any event, I dont think I'll be drinking tomato juice anytime soon. Angie > > > > Hi Angie, > > > > We all want to minimize " dumping " . Sometime it can't be > helped. Guest guest
OMG......Angie I am so sorry that happened to you. It is no fun at all. I don't think it was the date, but.....I've had that happen to me. I actually try & make myself throw-up as I know I will feel better faster. And it is usually something I have eaten previously too with no problems. Does make you shy away from that particular food because you don't want to have that happen again. Sometimes I never learn because I will later try the food item again & whoops the same thing happens again...But then again maybe it will be OK that time?! Sorry to say it's like a hit & miss with this food thing (at least for me). Everyone is different, too. It does get better though as time go by, as your pouch heals. You'll know what you can & can't eat without a problem. Take care... Barb iowa_girl32 wrote: Hi Barb, speaking of getting sick, I was sick during the night last night. Guest guest
I was kind of hoping it was from the tomato juice. Is it always that bad? I thought you just got nauseated and threw up. I didnt know it was such an ordeal. What I dont get is that if it was from something I ate at supper, that was almost 6 hours before I got sick. Wouldnt it have made me sick sooner than that? Guest guest
Angie, It could have been the tomato juice. I'm sorry yes, sometimes you feel like you are going to die. Sometimes it goes away quickly, sometimes not. Sometimes you can eat (or drink) something hours after a meal & it hits you. And you're thinking OMG what is happening to me.....There are different stages of " dumping " ....clammy, flushed feeling, racing heart, nauseous, diarrhea, general discomfort, shaky, headache.....Not all of these symptoms will happen at once. Hey, like I said it's can be a trial & error kinda thing with food & drink...Also, I know you know this, but remember to chew your food really good & not drink for at least an hour after you have eaten. Take care, Barb iowa_girl32 wrote: I was kind of hoping it was from the tomato juice. Is it always that bad? I thought you just got nauseated and threw up. I didnt know it was such an ordeal.
