Guest guest
I have gotten to where I drag myself out of bed as many mornings as I can at 4:45 am to walk to Bally's (a 2 minute walk, I can see it from the guest bedroom window!!) I do it, but I hate it....thats why I wanted to know if I will ever get to where I look forward to it, to where I enjoy it and make it more of a priority. Right now its a little hard, I work full time (at least 40 hours a week, but alot more during tax season - I am an accountant!). I also go to college fulltime at night (12-15 credits a semester), though I only have one more semester left now, I will be graduating in December! I also have a husband, a house, two dogs, a garden, dinner, dishes, laundry etc....to deal with! So, its really hard to make it a priority. Somebody said that those things are just excuses, but they sure take up alot of my time! Its hard to make time to go to the gym when I know I need to finish up my last paper that is due on Sunday (an online course!!)...guess I should cut back on my computer time, to make time for working out !!!!! Anyway, thanks for the all the suggestions....
Guest guest
Tory, you are just too motivating....I wish I could be you! Can you come to Colorado and rub some of that of on to me!! You look amazing by the way! Very inspirational! Re: Exercise Commercial... There are steps you can take to become a person who loves to exercise -- or at least tolerates it. 1. Vicki said " repetition " and she is *so* right. It's like a Nike commercial: Just do it. It really *is* that easy. There are only two choices. Do it or don't do it. When you put it into those simple terms, it makes it much more difficult to *not* do it. Since January 2, I've gotten up at 4:45 5 days a week and worked out before work. Each and every morning, I was tired. Each and every morning, I had two choices: sleep like a slug, or work toward becoming a healthier, more fit person. Guess which one I chose? Now, I don't even think about not getting up. 2. Find a buddy. I was an exerciser even before I started this early morning stuff. I walked at lunch time every day with other people who wanted to be fit. You don't want to back out, because you have someone waiting for you. 3. Know this: they're only excuses. Anything you can say about why you didn't work out? It's an excuse. When I *finally* " got it " on this point, it was a revelation. I, too, have children. And I have a full-time, very stressful, very demanding job. And I have a dog and two cats. And I have a house to care for. And I have a husband I adore. And I have friendships to keep up. And I have a garden to tend. And I have hobbies I love. And on and on and on...and I work out 5-7 days/week. 4. Even though I'm fairly young (41), when I was growing up girls in my town weren't encouraged to be athletic. " Ew, don't do that you'll get all sweaty. " and " Now, see, you're breathing so hard. " were things I heard. So I thought sweating and breathing hard were bad. Turns out they're not. Once you get to a place where you understand that being all sweaty and breathing hard mean you're doing good things for your body, well then, you're becoming someone who loves to exercise. 5. Think about this one: you don't *have* to be a person who loves to exercise. I don't particularly *love* to brush my teeth. But I love the way they feel afterward and I love the way they look afterward. So I just quit my belly-aching and DO IT. Same thing can go for exercise. 6. Emulate healthy people. (Notice I didn't say " skinny people. " I know many of those on the list are doing WW to look good, but I know too many skinny people who do not exercise and are NOT healthy and frankly, just don't look good.) 7. This one is sure to be controversial: don't watch TV. Personally, I've never been one to watch television. Recent studies have suggested a correlation to how much television you watch and how overweight you are. And it makes sense, doesn't it? I mean, unless you're on a treadmill and exercycle while you watch, you're sitting on your butt. For hours at a time. To me, that doesn't seem like living. It's watching other people live. Blech. I only have one life. I'm gonna try it all! 8. The slowest part will be changing your mindset, but once you do, the rest is easy. Guest guest
I think you will get to where you at least depend on it, if not like it. When I started working out at Curves this lazy, non-morning person girl was just NOT crazy about it. Now I call it my " Morning cup of coffee. " It energizes me every morning and I truly can't wait until I can get back to it. ~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~`~` Tory Klementsen, MCP A+ Career and Technology Educator The successful person will do things that the unsuccessful person will not. Guest guest
do you like Curves? For some reason I got the impression that it was only really beneficial for really large people. Maybe that was because I visited when it was fully of very large people! Thats not fair, thats just the impression that I got. I wouldn't say I am extremely large, I have about 30-40lbs to lose, I am 5'6 " , and weight 177lbs. I am used to a really strenuous workout on an elliptical or an aerobics, class and I thought that curves didn't look like it would be strenuous enough...did I get the wrong impression? Guest guest
I do like Curves, but I supplement it with the Y. I think it is a decent workout because the hydraulic machines work so that the harder you work, the harder they resist. I can get my heart rate up and keep it up. I also have added wrist weights and work quite hard on the recovery stations so by the time I get out of there, I've gotten a decent workout. I think if you're looking for toning, it's great. If you're looking for definition and cuts you need to supplement. At this point in my fitness level I would probably only do the Y, but the people at Curves are such neat people. They have really been there for me while I've been ill. They aren't charging me while I can't workout (the Y has no problem still charging me). I continue to support them just because they deserve my loyalty. Guest guest
I am the same way with the red face and I hate it! I either have to work out first thing in the morning before a shower or late at night before bed or at least when I know I have nowhere else to go! Re: Exercise Commercial... Guest guest
<I have never been one to enjoy exercise. So I was wondering, you know that silly commercial where they say something about a person that exercises feels like a tiger and somebody that doesn't feels like a cat, is there any truth to that? My next question is...are there any secrets to become a person that loves to exercise?> I would have to say yes to this!! I never liked to exercise either, but I do feel much more confident and alive when I do. I found for me that I had to do something that I really enjoyed and that kept me moving so much I didn t even realize I was doing it, if that makes sense. Like, for cardio I do Step Aerobics. I personally have to do either intermediate or advanced step because I have to be so busy trying to figure out what I am supposed to be doing that I don't realize I feel like I am going to die, If you get my drift. At home I have been doing Windsor Pilates (got sucked into their damn infomercial) and I have to say I love these videos. Just when you think you can't possibly do one more she changes what exercise you are doing and most of the videos are only 20 mins, so there really is no excuse. I try to do one every day. I have the 20 workout, the buns and thighs workout the abs workout, the basic and the accelerated toning. Now the accelerated toning is an hour and I haven't made it through the whole thing, so if you are starting Pilates I don't recommend getting that one first. I am not a person who can do the exercise bike for 40 mins. Last night I tried to do the bike with my husband, I thought if I had him next to me on another bike I could sit there, but I didn't make it past 15 mins. Anyway, the only thing to do is try lots of different things. Just because you don't like to run, doesn't me you don't like anything cardio, etc.... Most YMCAs will give you 7 free visits a year, go check that out and see if they have something you like! I absolutely love my YMCA! I have to give that credit to Tory, cause reading her website it what gave me the motivation to go find some exercise I liked! Hope that helps! Guest guest
Oh, I love the Windsor Pilates...I have been doing that since November. I was going to a pilates class at a gym that my friend belongs too, and loved it. Those tapes are the closest to the real thing that I have found!
