Guest guest
Health Tip: Know Your Blood Pressure (HealthDay News) -- Blood pressure and cholesterol levels are excellent indicators of heart disease risk. If your levels are in or nearing the dangerous range, you'll need to take action to protect your heart and your health. But what are those levels? High blood pressure is considered 140/90 mm Hg or higher, and prehypertension is any reading between normal and high blood pressure. .. People with blood pressure in the prehypertensive range (between 120 and 139 systolic pressure and 80 and 90 diastolic pressure) should make lifestyle changes to prevent heart disease. .. Total cholesterol should be below 200 mg/dL. High cholesterol is any reading of 240 mg/dL or higher, and moderate risk is anything in between normal and high cholesterol. .. LDL is " bad " cholesterol. That reading should be below 100 mg/dL, and anything higher than 160 mg/dL is considered a high risk for heart disease. .. HDL is " good " cholesterol. That reading should be between 40-50 mg/dL for men and 50-60 mg/dL for women. Anything less than 40 mg/dL is considered a high risk for heart disease. list end -- Kohnle Copyright © 2006 ScoutNews LLC. All rights reserved. Guest guest
HIwhich arm did you have your blood pressure taken? I went to the doctor he took my blood pressure on the right arm and it was 160 over 140. A few days later I had it taken again not by the same doctor and on the left arm and it was 140 over 85. Do you maybe know if blood pressure should be measured on the left and if there are different readings from measuring blood pressure on different arms? Guest guest
, I don't think it matters which arm they take your blood pressure. I think if it did, all doctors or nurses would keep to a regular standard to which arm they carried out the test. I hope this helps. Guest guest
Hi, I have found that when I take my pressure at home, when relaxed, the reading is much better than at the doctor's! I blame it on his nurse for getting me excited! Grin! There is also a well known factor, known as the white jacket syndrome! Evenings are also better than earlier. Guest guest
Hi Is your blood pressure high enough to take medication? Did your doctor advise you to go and see a physician. Why I ask my blood pressure was 160/110 at the doctor's room, and he said I should see a physician immediately. When I had tested a few days later it was 140/85. So I asked my family if I should still see the physician and they said yes. I feel comfused, because of having the blood pressure measured on both arms and having different readings. Guest guest
Yes, I have been on medications for about seven years! I was around the same level as you, when I started medications! Different doctors, seem to have different ideas as to what high pressure is! I always take my pressure at least twice! Sit for about five minutes, take the pressure, than sit for another five minutes, and take it again! Some doctors will give you a test, where your pressure is taken about six times in half an hour, and then take the average! Guest guest
I learned that you should alternate between arms when taking blood pressure. The mussles have been squeezed in one arm, and do not bounce back wright away. You can go to the other arm and check pressure. Sould work out the same. Darryl On This Week's Take A Break...
