Guest guest
I'm glad to have found this group and not feel so alone and confused about diagnostic and treatment choices. I'm hoping you can help me figure out which direction to go in and I thank you in advance. I've done some reading and believe in addition to low thyroid which was diagnosed a month ago, I may have adrenal insufficiency as well. I have only one adrenal gland since September 2001, as kidney cancer traveled into my left adrenal gland which was removed along with the cancerous kidney. I am totally cancer free and very grateful for that every day. My doctor doesn't seem to think there is a connection between only one adrenal gland, adrenal insufficiency and low thyroid. She just wants me to continue the thyroid med which is not Armour as it is producing the results she wants. I also took Dr Rind's test last night and have strong symptoms of both adrenal fatigue and low thyroid. Do I continue the thyroid med or deal with the adrenals first, or do I do both? Should I send away for the adrenal lab test or find an endocrinologist to test me and treat for adrenal insufficiency and low thyroid, and where do I find such a gem? I am very confused and would welcome help in pointing me in the right direction. From what I understand if the adrenals aren't functioning properly it is not a good idea to be on thyroid hormone whether synthetic or natural, but I'm uncertain and overwhelmed. Please help me make sense of this and create a path back to good health. That would be the best gift I could ever get. Thank you and heartfelt blessings, in Saint sburg, FL
Guest guest
Hi , I would highly recommend the Canary Club labs to get an idea of what you are dealing with. It os always better to get a baseline before treating adfrenals and if doctors would READ the prescribinginfo for all thyroid meds, adrenla function should be verified normal before beginning treatment. Just go here to order a home test kit; www.canaryclub.org -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
, I wish the answers for you were easy, but as many of us here know, unfortunately, traditional (mainstream) docs and endos generally don't believe in adrenal insufficiency or adrenal fatigue unless you have 's disease. The tests they run which they consider gospel usually do not detect the milder forms of adrenal insufficiency, though this can be disabling and very uncomfortable. Some of us here are self-treating with hydrocortisone and know where to get it, and some of us are lucky to have found " alternative " MD's and other holistic-type practitioners who test us with saliva and then prescribe the HC to us. We have some labs available that some people here use for saliva testing, e.g. canaryclub.org, and others have good alternative docs who run the adrenal saliva test out of labs like Great Smokies. There is a lot of debate about how much HC we should take in order to not suppress our adrenal function and put ourselves in danger of adrenal crisis, but this is highly contraversial, even among many physicians. The consensus seems to be that taking 15 mgs. per day is very safe and DOES NOT cause adrenal suppression. There are others who feel that even 20 mgs. per day doesn't do that. My doctor who is a top alternative MD and treats chronic fatigue with thyroid and adrenal hormone prescribes 10 mgs. in the morning and 5 mgs. with lunch. Taking it this way mimics the body's natural production of cortisol and this is less likely to suppress your own adrenal function. Some people just need to take this to better tolerate and better optimize thyroid (thyroid hormone has trouble getting into the cells if cortisol isn't adequate in the body) and others take it because they havve adrenal exhaustion and are debilitating by the symptoms this causes. Some people only need to take the HC for up to a year or so and give their adrenal glands a chance to rest and recover and also to optimize the thyroid and then can come off. I'm sure others here will come along to give their advice as well. Introduction and Thyroid and Adrenal Confusion I'm glad to have found this group and not feel so alone and confused about diagnostic and treatment choices. Guest guest
Thanks Val for your guidance. I will get the test from canary club.org. I feel I have a direction to go in now and once I have the results will ask for help as to where to go from there. > > Hi , I would highly recommend the Canary Club labs to get an idea > of what you are dealing with. Guest guest
Hi, , So glad to hear you're cancer free! I'm kind of confused by why your dr wouldn't think that ONE adrenal gland might not pick up the slack when we're supposed to have TWO! To me, and I'm not an expert, it only stands to reason that you may need to help the one remaining adrenal gland. I agree with the previous poster that you should do saliva testing. Canary Club is a good option. Or, you could also consult with Dr. Mark (drmarkrhodes.com) who can order the saliva testing for you & consult with you before & after. Low cortisol prevents thyroid hormone from getting to the cells, so unless you had a thyroid problem before, it's entirely possible that it may resolve when the adrenals are properly treated. Or you may still need thyroid hormone. To be honest, you will be hard pressed to find an endo who knows about adrenal insuffiency. However, you do have an " advantage " in that you only have one adrenal gland - that might motivate some to treat you. But many just don't know what they're doing with regard to adrenals. Best of luck! Warmly, > > I've done some reading and believe in addition to low thyroid which > was diagnosed a month ago, I may have adrenal insufficiency as well.
