Guest guest
Hello all, I just got home from the hospital. This morning the dr. said that justin was surprisingly stable. This afternoon cultures started coming back and he has psudamonis, vancomyacin resillient infection, caused from the antibiotic itself and something else. So, he's quite ill. Surprise. They have him on a drug to keep his blood pressure up. Today while getting an antibiotic, his heart rate spiked into the 180's occasionally. Always came down on it's own. The nurse thought it was the combination of the two drugs at the same time. Then tonight as I thought about leaving, it went up to over 200 and stayed there for about 10 min. They paged the resident who came and they were preparing to give him a drug that would have stopped his heart momentarily in hopes to restart. About the time they were approved for that, it went back down on it's own. Cardiology said it's prob just the dopamine, bp med and to discontinue it. Problem is his blood pressure would come down to low, so they plan to wean him down and hope the smaller amount keeps the pressure up. They put in an " art " line which goes into an artery to get better bp measures and draw blood gases without sticking him all the time. I left after about 2 hours of no more episodes. So, they plan to wait til Friday to go back in to remove the packing and try to close him up. Give the new antibiotics time to kick in a bit. That's about it, he's pretty much knocked out and had mittens on from trying to extubate himself. I took them off this afternoon when he promised to not do that and I was watching. A few times he got the urge but I just got his hands down. So, til Friday, we'll see what happens. Keep prayers coming.
