Guest guest
Today I dragged myself in to see my new rheumatologist. It literally was dragging....with my constant fevers, I've been feeling rotten for weeks, and couldn't get out of bed all last week. The temps were spiking higher; on Saturday it went up to 105.7 deg, and my hubby wanted to take me to the ER. I think the worst part of it is when it first starts going up, and I shiver and shake so badly all I can do is shudder and cry, and just wait for it to pass a certain point. Once it gets high enough, the shivering stops and I actually feel better. I also had really bad Fibro Fog today, and staggered when I walked through the office. Then I got lost--the doc's office was in an annex to St. Hospital (in Nashville) and I got completely lost in that place! At times I felt like crying. I couldn't find my way back out to the same way I came in; the place is like an ant hive with corridors going off in all directions and so many different exits. And I couldn't find anyone to ask, so I just wandered around until I found a door and walked around to the emergency entrance (my sister-in-law was picking me up, and I needed to be where she let me off, which I couldn't find. Thankfully, she found me, wandering around in the rain). When they took my blood pressure it was 90/60, which is a little lower than my usual pressure. Then the doc came in, and I think my pressure went wa-a-ay up....he is cute!!! And very thorough. He asked me a lot of questions. His office had sent me several pages of questions to fill out, which I mailed back, plus they had me fill out more when I got there today. But he let me keep my long-sleeved shirt on under the exam gown because it was chilly (to me). But he did the pressure point check, and after I leapt off the table after one poke he stopped and said that was more than enough. He had me hold my arms out and raise them, and I couldn't get them shoulder-high. He also had me Then he left the room and reviewed everything and came back and said " you have fibro (which I already knew, hah) and there's no cure (which I already knew) " and he was just so very kind. Then he surprised me by telling me I also have osteo-arthritis. I really don't know much about it, except that it mainly effects your hands and feet. They did ex-rays on my hands, and showed me where the bone looked eroded and had some spurs. So at least now I know why my handwriting is so bad now! And, he also believes it's the Lamactil causing my fevers, and wants me on Cymbalta, and said when I see my pdoc next week I need to let him know that I have to have either Lexapro, which I was doing so well on, or else be put on Cymbalta and taken off the Lamactil. They also took 5 tubes of blood - I think I probably have 4 left, lol! I have to go back in 2 weeks for a follow-up. He didn't change any of my meds, and doesn't have a problem with my being on MS-Contin. He said my neurologist has been doing a good job. BTW, can someone tell me when menopause is supposed to start? I'm nearly 53, and am doubled-over with cramps. I thought I should be done with it by now. My mother was 39 when she started menopause, and I was kind of expecting to have started long ago. {{{HUGS}}} cyn FSG Mod Fibromyalgia_Support_Group clmerritt@... I know I have arthritis there, and I thought they said OA. Maybe I misheard? What kind of arthritis can it be, besides RA?
