Guest guest
I'd be interested to know what the selenium intake is for other children. Our dietitian queried the multivit that I've put Hannah on, asking if it had all the essentials and especially the ones which are required in trace amounts. When I looked, the label didnt list selenium, the one that the dietitian had used as an example, so I am now wondering if Hannah is getting any/enough of this and other vits / minerals. Hannah is 4.5 years old. (Hannah's mum, Australia) ----- Original Message ----- > Also, what level of Selenium is Mike on? I'm > researching Selenium and Zinc and trying to find good > numbers. Guest guest
= I use Unicap-m and just checked the bottle- no sign of selenium.. Brittany's last bloodwork came back with a lower selenium level so now she has a brazil nut 3x a week. Our dietician tells me that selenium is found in dirt so we get it from vegetables and that alot of kids on the kgd don't get enough veggies to keep their selenium high. Still makes me nervous as lack of selenium can effect the heart muscle. I am anxious to have her retested at the end of Sept.

Guest guest
Hi De From what I have been able to find- glutamate and glutamic acid are the same thing- an amino acid which acts as an excitatory neurotransmitter. This is the stuff that is in msg but it also occurs naturally in free form in many foods. These foods often act as natural flavor enhansers- like the msg- and we therefore tend to use alot of them in our diets because they make things taste better. Oddly enough for us many of these foods are things that I have found Mike to be very sensitive to and I therefore try to limit them. Some foods hi in natural glutamate are- parmesan cheese, soy sauce ( also may contain alot of msg) walnuts, tomato, grapes, peas, mushrooms, broccoli. There may not be any basis of this little theory of mine other than simple coincidence but we do know that mike is extremely sensitive to all msg so why would we not see the same thing with natural glutamate. Just one more little thing ( to go along with the oher 1000 things) to be obsessed with . Guest guest
Hi De Sorry missed this question re vitamins in my other post. Mike gets 100 mcg of selinium/day- divided doses. He also gets 25 mg of Zinc/day. I think this probably needs to be higher but each time we raise it Mike runs into stomach problems so we will stay here for now. Vit b- he gets 310 mg/day of B complex. We have increased this to 360 with good results and will probably leave it that hi for a while. Mike is six in 3 weeks and weighs 40 lbs- pretty close to I think . We do alot of supplements with Mike and have seen really good results. I would suggest you really look into Vit Cand Vit E if you hav not already done so. These two made a huge difference for Mike. faye DeEtte Person wrote: > Faye -- What are the high and low glutamate foods? > Haven't heard this one before. > > Also, what level of Selenium is Mike on? Guest guest
Thanks, Faye. . .and happy birthday soon to Mike! What B complex are you using? Also, are you supplementing zinc, selenium, C and E separately? I'm giving 400 IU Vitamin E currently. I've played around with C, but nothing consistent. How much C do you do? What are the good results you've noticed with C & E? Do many questions! Thanks for all your insight!--D --- kevin cooper wrote: > Hi De > Sorry missed this question re vitamins in my other > post. > Mike gets 100 mcg of selinium/day- divided doses.
