Guest guest
Trish, Wow, just read your post. I have no good advice to offer. but I will pray for you for help in getting your blood pressure down and you feel better. I think you should be commended for seeing all of those Doctor's in one day. I do not think my stess level could handle that. Glad you are seeking help and hopefully you have better insurance than I do . Good Luck. Guest guest
Hope the cast solves the problem. was at CHOP today to see Dr. son in orthopedics. He is wonderful. was put in a pavlic harness at 2 mos. for hip displasia. After 2 mos. no change so Dr. son said he would put her in a body cast. Under the first casteing he found there was no need for surgery because there was no obstruction - the hip bones just weren't formed right. So he set her legs and casted her. Her left hip was so abnormal he told me later that the one MD he consulted with on her hips, who " had a few more gray hairs than me " (thus more experienced, etc.) said the casting would never work and would need reconstructive surgery. He wanted to try anyway. Our first miracle was when was born alive, our second was when they took that first cast off. After 1 month in the cast, her hip started to form a socket. I never saw a more excited staff as that day. They never saw anything like it, couldn't believe it and told us to " keep praying " . She had three cast over 4 months and her hips and legs are a little outward but work well. We can start standing her and we'll use MOFOs - only because her PT was concerned about weight bearing on the weak ankles. Best of Luck with 's cast. Amy - Mom to the younger. Update Saw the Rheumatologist who wasn't impressed with any of the labs (good thing), and brought the films down to pediatric radiology department at St. Chris. Interpretation was a stress fracture though baffled by the fact that couldn't see anything whatsoever with the bone x-rays. After lunch, had the MRI which demonstrated a stress fracture beginning from within the marrow space rather than the other way around. Cancelled the ortho consult at CHOP as no need for biopsy and saw a local ortho who put in a cast. Though still don't have an answer for the general symptoms, will put that on the back burner for now and let his docs figure out what to do next rather than " playing doc " myself. Thanks for all your prayers and thoughts, REALLY HELPED. was surprised to hear that so many people around the world know who he is! Guest guest
, if not being totally " dead or institutionalized " is the criteria to judge if one has mito or not then count half of us on this list out. Like I've argued for years, there are all degrees of most medical problems and mito for sure has it's share of all degrees! S. update From: nmnett@... (nicole nett) Hey everyone! saw the geneticist on July 14. We are no further along now than we were before. She said they aren't ruling out mito completely, but she said he is " doing too well " because he is gaining milestones ( he is soooo close to standing alone and walking with no hands! ) and that is not typical. So now I'm stuck, I feel as if I have run out of questions to ask. She is sending his recs. and labs to Dr. Shoffner, though. We saw the his ped today, she put us in for another consult with a DIFFERENT neurologist...hooray! Maybe this one will actually wake up to look at him. We are also going to have his vision checked. So that's the latest and greatest.... ---------------------------
Guest guest
I'm afraid this is one of those typical reactions. Many of our Mito children appear healthy and do reach milestones, but that doesn't erase the fact that they have Mito and they need special treatment. Have you considered having your doctor send these records to Dr. Bruce Cohen in Cleveland. He is a pediatric neurologist who specializes in Mito. I saw him last week ( yes - he does see adults with Mito as well ) and he is wonderful. Alice update From: nmnett@... (nicole nett) Hey everyone! saw the geneticist on July 14. Guest guest
Melinda, Take care of yourself. Update Hi, I saw the infectious disease specialist yesterday. It will be a minimum of six weeks on the vanco--according to the lab work, the knee is not healing. So the nurse came out today and reaccessed my port and then I went this afternoon for more blood work (had some done yesterday that indicated some improvement, though, according to phone message from nurse later this afternoon) We have had a death in our extended family and Bob and I are headed for Dallas, TX and on to Idabel, OK in about five hours. I will be ok, just pray for us, it is a whirlwind trip, but I think I will make it all right. Will take the vanco with us. I feel it is important for me to be there for him, besides I love these folks. Have got to get packed. Love you all, will post over the weekend.Hugs,MelindaPlease visit our website at:http://ACES_Autoimmune.tripod.com

Guest guest
So sorry to hear about your Dad, Melinda. You're all in my prayers. Kathy Update Hello all, What a week. Won't bore you with the details right now, but just to say we got Daddy thru another crisis and he is at home with home health skilled nursing, pt and ot that will begin next week. He has told us his last wishes and will be signing a dnr today or over the weekend as soon as my sister brings it to him and they can get two neighbors to witness it. I am leaving in the morning to go back to Eugene. I am worn out and need to be with my family. There isn't much else that I can do here and I am fairly certain that this is goodbye between me and dad.I am ok with this. It is hard though. I have doctors appts next week that I must keep and I need to sleep. Will post and let you know that I made it home safely. Keep us in your prayers. Thanks so much.
