Guest guest
Thanks, Vicki P. I'd forgotten about your story & the Bible verses for it. I need to add that into my giving up the caffeine. ) On a side note, my sister has given up caffeine & meat as part of the Bible study we're both in (Beth 's " " -- everyone doing the study was challenged to give up something for the study's duration -- 5 weeks -- to symbolize rebelling against the world's overindulgence mentality). My sis has lasted 3 days so far, and at our lunch out with Grandma today, she ate only fried mushrooms & had only an iced-tea to drink (which she claims doesn't have caffeine, though I've always been told it does). She's taking this seriously. I've not told her of my plan to forego caffeine. I want to keep that a secret from my family & f2f friends so that I don't get hounded about it all the time. ) Also, I've had a lot of teeth problems of late, too, so it's probably that darn caffeine, again! All the more reason to stay far, far away from it. LOL. ) Jenn <>< -----Original Message----- I began to recite bible verses out loud when I felt the >oppression and drink a cup of ice water or iced tea. Guest guest
Thanks Vicki, for sharing your story! I know it's possible to do this, I just have to trust and know I will find the way. I have been able to overcome dieting and emotional eating, so it will happen. I like the idea of a spiritual angle to this, because whether it is food, soda, drugs, or whatever we use, it's usually to fill something we are missing spiritually. I will have to keep that in mind and just like I ask myself what I am feeling and what do I need when I want to eat but I'm not hungry, I will start doing the same thing when I crave the soda. Thanks to everyone for the support! I support people all day with this stuff, but it's hard to coach myself and remember to apply what I know! You guys are great! When I started my weight loss, which was about 3 years ago, I used diet cola drinks for my ‘snacks’ or need to feed times. I started IE in Dec. and still used the diet colas. This summer I was having obsessive thoughts with food. It was like someone whispering, “eat, eat” in my subconscious. As a born again Christian I felt that this was perhaps a demonic sabotage of all I was doing to remain true to the hunger/ full regimen on IE. I began to recite bible verses out loud when I felt the oppression and drink a cup of ice water or iced tea. Within three days the oppression was gone and so was the need for diet coke. Another thing that was going on at the same time was that I realized I have had a lot of teeth problems over the last year and I was concerned over the sodas being the culprit. I like my pearly whites so this disturbed me greatly. I do drink the diet colas occasionally but do not crave or desire them. I really never thought I would be able to break that habit and I don’t know what advice to tell you. It is just my story. I wish you well, Vicki P. Guest guest
Thanks Jenn, I enjoy caffeine in my coffee and tea. It is the acid in the cola that eats the enamel off of our teeth. I knew that but I was still drinking it trying to convince myself that my teeth would be alright, but then I started having lots of problems and seeing how weak my teeth were becoming it alarmed me. I can’t believe how much I have started to enjoy ice water. I don’t drink as near as much tea as I started when I gave up the cola. I don’t drink caffeinated beverages after 6 in the evening because then I don’t sleep well. It used to not bother me, but I am getting older and now it does. Vicki P. Guest guest
, LOL... No, no, no ... it's ICED-tea that she thinks has no caffeine. ) But, we're still not sure on that. As for your friend, that's interesting. Are you sure it was the caffeine, and not the carbs, that helped her drop off the pounds? A lot of people lose weight on those carb-free diets.... (unfortunately, because it's a " diet " , that weight will come back eventually). :-? But, I'm dropping caffeine anyway. Will let you know the results! ;o) (I can see how it'd help curb the munchies -- that's part of what I'm hoping for in my own situation!) Guest guest
Jenn, my favorite is Luzianne decaf for ice tea. I think it makes great tea! I stopped drinking caffeine about 15 years ago when I had breast tenderness that got really painful. It helped tremendously. I've gone back to caffeine lately, but I can't do much. It makes me feel awful if I drink too much. I've never understood how people needed it to wake up. It makes me too yucky feeling instead of waking me up. Leisa Re: the cola addiction Jenn,It's ICED tea that comes as regular or decaf... Guest guest
I've just been wondering this myself lately. One glass of ice tea or about one tea bag a day really makes me feel funny.
