Guest guest
Congratulations! Babies are wonderful. I would think IE would be perfect in a pregnancy. There have been some wild updates. I went to a nutritionist to discuss what exactly healthy eating was, i.e. basics like what carbs are, portion size etc. So she is a little wacky and overrelates way too much but I did learn about my fat intake and portion size. I threw out the whole calorie thing and now am opting for less fat things (like the 100 cal reeses packs that satisfy my choc peanutbutter craving without all the fat). And I have been intuitively eating...BUT.... I'm Pregnant! Ya! But how to you eat intuitively and be pregnant?!? With my daughter I put on 50 lbs. If I do that this time, I'll weigh more than my hubby! ahaha. So I'm back, after some shockers...but I'm still eating intuitively and I am proudl to say I've not gained any weight so far! (knock on wood, I haven't weighed in a while) V

Guest guest
Congrats on the pregnancy news! This may be hard to believe, but I actually had no problem eating intuitively when I was pregnant with my son. It felt so natural because if I did NOT eat intuitively I would throw up or dry heave. I only gained 17 lbs too. All the best! Guest guest
Vivian!!! Congratulations!! :-D And, it's soooo possible to do IE and be pregnant! The ThinWithin book talks about it... It says " we have had many women use the ThinWithin tools while pregnant. We have found that 0-5 eating (hunger-fullness) uniformly results in less weight gain, fewer blood pressure & diabetes problems, more comfortable & enjoyable pregnancies, and happier mothers, babies, and obstetricians. What a wonderful time to honor your body! " I think it's the best time to eat this way! ) I wish you all the best & will pray for a safe pregnancy, labor & delivery! ) Jenn <>< -----Original Message----- >I'm Pregnant! Ya! Guest guest
HI Vivian. Congrats on your pregnancy that is so wonderful. As for how to eat intuitively when preganant, believe it or not pregnancy is one of those times when IE kicks in all by itself really strong if we pay attention. I actually lost weight when pregnant. The doctors said it was ok because everything i was eating was going toward the baby. It is a myth that you have to put any weight on that is not baby, placenta, and blood. My sister in law lost 8 lbs when pregnant from walking. You up your calories only to the amount the baby needs , not any extra for you and you body will know to do this anyway. Just keep listenin to it. Many women believe they have to put weight on and so they eat that way even unconsciously. its like the chicken and the egg thing. We eat more because we think we are over weight, we are not over weight because we over eat. You don't have to have a lot of strange cravings or eat for two. Just keep listening to your body. Guest guest
Yeah, definately DON'T eat for two!!! I made that mistake, and ended up gaining 72 lbs with my first baby! Yikes! Talk about a shock... went from childless & size 6, to a mom wearing a size 18!!! :-O LOL Jenn <>< -----Original Message----- >You don't have to have a lot of strange cravings or eat for two. Guest guest
Omigosh, thank you guys for the support. I didn't want to post b/c I thought that folks would think I was crazy for still worrying about IE and weight management during my pregnancy. My goal is to only put on the 15 or so lbs that overweight moms are recommended. If it's healthier to gain less, so be it. I'll follow my body. Last night, I binged on anythign I could get but it was very minor (2 cheetos and juice and a bite of this) and I knew it was more emotional than hunger and I went to sleep instead. Today I'm trying to honor my hunger and fight that urge to finish the food on my plate again. I feel like I need to revisit the principals. > > Okay guys I'm back. There have been some wild updates. Guest guest
This is a question I've wondered about. How do you eat intuitively when pregnant? You will get cravings that are not from your own stomach, so how do you respond? How can you tell if it's a craving due to pregnancy or emotional reasons or other disordered eating causes? I would really like to know about this because when I was pregnant with my son I was bulimic and had other weght loss methods in use, but when I have my next child I would like to be normal. How do you keep from gaining excess weight? I know that there are women that pretty much just gain the baby and the accompanying weight, but they don't get fat. What's the secret?vivianclc wrote: Okay guys I'm back. There have been some wild updates. Guest guest
I think your cravings are still from your own system... the baby's is separate. So, it really shouldn't make any difference in how you do IE. You still follow your own body's signals of hunger-fullness and you and baby should do just fine! That's my take, anyway. I'm not a doctor... Jenn <>< -----Original Message----- You will get cravings that are not from your own stomach, so how do you respond? Guest guest
I agree with Jenn, if I get a craving, I don't deny it. I had a craving for candy tonight and I had way less than I would have usually. I stopped when I was done. Same with dinner. It's actually getting easier. Not to talk lbs but I'm actully down from pre preg. and I'm eating regularly. V Okay guys I'm back. There have been some wild updates.
