Hi everyone,………did

you hear about the below news? I am so sad about this. I really like Steve

Erwin, and watched his Croc shows up until he did a stupid thing IMHO of exposing

his baby Bob to a croc on one of his shows. That was a little over the top for

me. But, I still feel sad that this happened to him. His wife Terri is from Eugene, OR.

CAIRNS, Australia, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Australia's

internationally renowned " Crocodile Hunter, " Steve Irwin was killed

Monday by a stingray barb to the heart as he was filming underwater.

Irwin, 44, was struck in shallow

waters as he was filming a documentary on the Great

Barrier Reef called " Ocean's Deadliest " , The

Australian reported.

His crew pulled him aboard his

research vessel, Croc One, summoned a rescue helicopter and sped to a meeting

point 30 minutes away as they performed CPR on him, reports said.

The Melbourne-born naturalist's

" Crocodile Hunter " program was first broadcast in Australia in

1992 and is shown around the world on the Discovery cable network. Irwin also

starred in movies and helped develop the Australia Zoo wildlife park, north

of Brisbane,

which was started by his parents Bob and Lyn Irwin.

Marine experts said the stingray was

about 8 feet across with a jagged, 10-inch barb on its tail.

Irwin is survived by his U.S.-born

wife, Terri, daughter Bindi, 8, and three-year-old son Bob.

Yes we heard this first thing this morning. We enjoyed him also but I always said it was just going to be a matter of time until he was severely injured or worse. His children are so young. I think they said 8 and 2.

Isn't it sad? I was shocked too. I didn't realize his wife was from the US. I just supposed she was from Australia too. I heard she was on a separate vacation with the kids. I think they said Tanzania. I don't know if that's true though.

I felt the same way about him putting the baby in danger. What a stupid thing to do. But he was engaging and had such an infectious smile.

I think that naturalist Jack Hannah gave him the best tribute: that he died

doing what he loved, and that he was an avid environmentalist and advocate

of animal rights. Indeed, he will be missed by many! Love, n

n,…….whether he was trying to introduce his baby to the

wild as part of his training to live amongst that sort of thing, was IMHO

irresponsible concerning the baby’s age, No matter how much of a grip he

had on him. I watched that program, and his baby wasn’t even 6 mo’s

old. It was a publicity stunt, and even though he gave the explanation that he

did, I still thought it was poor judgment on his part. I’m all for teaching

children about the dangers of their environment, but not until they can

understand it. 6 mo’s

was a little young I thought. I will still miss him, and I didn’t harbor

bad feelings towards him, and I too applauded him for starting the Australia

Zoo, and all the wonderful work he had done for all the animals.

I felt sincere heartfelt sadness when I heard the news of his passing.

Yes, it is very sad. I started watching his programs practically ever

since they were televised, and enjoyed them so much. He was so funny in his

escapades, and it was hard not to feel like you knew him your whole life. I saw

one show when he was with his daughter Bindi, and the two of them were so sweet

together. His enthusiasm, and love for what he was doing was contagious.

Oh wow, no we hadn't heard that yet. I just told the boys and they were surprised, but not surprised. I suppose we all thought it might be a crocodile which got him in the end.
