Guest guest
Hi everyone, I wanted to know what parents do with their children who have been diagnosed with an autism related disorder and have not yet transitioned to the school board programs. For example, my son was diagnosed at age 2 1/2 but began struggling in his childcare center several months before that, needing extra staff. Lucky for us, we owned the center so we could provide that extra staff and my work schedule was flexible so I could accomodate him as well by picking him up when he struggled. I do not know what we would have done if our situation was more typical in that both parents had to work outside of the home and could not be flexible. But, what do other working parents do with their children from time of diagnosis until they transition to the school board if they need childcare? Also, are there programs where you know your kid is safe for the day while you work AND they can get some services such as ABA/VB, Speech, OT, PT AND exposure to typical kids so they have good models AND adequate staff? Are there programs such as these in Broward County? I have been trying to explore/brainstorm how to set something like this up b/c I see a need for it but find it very difficult. You can email me your thoughts, concerns and whatever else you want to say offline... austintandt@... Thanks, Tina (Austin's mommy)
