Hi everyone. I just joined.

My name is . I'm 24. I have vulvar vestibulitis. I've had it for

about 4-5 years, but just was diagnosed with it last year. I've tried

steroid creams, and antidepressants (they can help with nerve pain) and now

i'm scheduled for a vestibulectomy on Friday (March 24). I've heard a lot of

bad things about it from people online, however never from anyone who

actually had the procedure done. Only from people who know people who had it

done. My doctor is very positive about it. I trust him. He said the

procedure will take about 10 minutes and he is just removing the infected

vestibular glands. And it has to heal for about 10 months and then i will be

cured. He said he has done it a lot of times, and he never had a patient

come back and not be cured. However, all the horror stories are scaring me.

I only have like 4 days till the surgery. This is also my first surgery.

Did anyone ever have this procedure before????? Has anyone had positive

results from it?? Please, if someone did please let me know. If anyone has

any info please let me know and soon. Anyone can email me anytime!!!

I've had VV since I was 18, diagnosed after 8 or 9 years. I had a doctor who

was very positive about the surgery and I had also tried a few different

treatment options before that. It was a really tough decision at the time,

but I elected not to have the surgery (and no, I'm not cured, yet -- I wish I

could tell you I was). BUT, it sounds like you are still having some doubts

about the surgery. For what it's worth, I'd just like to remind you that you

can have the surgery any time. If you aren't sure about this important (and

irreversible) step, then maybe you ought to take the time and be sure.

On this list you will find a lot of support and understanding. Maybe that

doesn't sound like much, but, if up till now you have felt like you were all

alone with this problem -- as, I think most of up did before we found the

list -- then it can make an enormous difference.

The surgery, from what I understand, has helped some people. It has also,

from what I've heard, hurt others. I can't advise you on that. But I do

suggest that you take the time to be really certain of your decision, to

learn from the other women here, and to find out more about your options.

Just my 2 cents. I want to welcome you to the list. I'm sorry you have to
