Hi! I had a myo with Dr. West on May 24th and flew from Chicago to

see him. I happened to have business in NYC anyway, so I flew in for

work and worked Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday I had an office

visit with him, and then took a cab to the hospital for pre-op stuff

(paperwork, blood test, blood pressure, etc.) had the surgery on

Thursday and flew home on Saturday. I had a 20 week uterus with

relatively minor symptoms.

I love this man! He did a great job on me and his staff was great (I

especially liked my anesthesiologist) and have been back to traveling

for work since the third week after surgery. I was working at my

desk and even did some manual labor (setting up for a trade show)two

weeks after the procedure. Sure, I was a little bit slow and I

didn't lift too much but I was able to be there and to be

productive. Everyone kept saying how amazing I was to be there and

to be so mobile. I kept telling them that it was Dr. West that was

amazing and not me.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any additional questions. I'd be

happy to answer any you have.

Someone replied in a previous message to look into Dr. Del Junco who

is closer to your area. I'd look in the archives here and do a

little extra research on him. There have been some interesting

reviews.

Good luck!!!

Thanks for the heads-up. I did look into Dr. Del Junco about two years ago

and decided he wasn't for me.

Giselle,

Dr. Stanley West is an exceptional surgeon. My co-workers were

amazed to see me back in the office two and a half weeks after

surgery. They were surprised to see me walking around as if nothing

happened.

After surgery, I had to go see him about eleven days after surgery,

and then two weeks after that. I am supposed to go back six months

after the second visit.

What did you do about follow-up visits? Did you go back to New York

to have the incision looked at? Or did you go to a local doctor in

Chicago?

Donna,

He said that I could go to a doc in Chicago, or I could go back to

see him in about two weeks. I went back to see him and of course,

all went well. I also have an appointment to see him again in

December. I am really lucky to have to go to NYC for work and my

company allows me to schedule work trips around my visits so I can

expense them (how cool is that?!)

I have an appointment in September to see my regular gyn in Chicago

for my annual. I never told her that I was going to see someone else

after she threatened me with a hysterectomy if I didn't go on Lupron.

I just quit making appointments to see her, and went to see Dr. West

instead. I can't wait to tell her that I still have a uterus and I

didn't take that nasty drug!!.

Donna, how long ago was your myo? When did the numbness go away in

your abdomen? I am trying to start working my ab muscles at the gym

and having a difficult time. I know it was not very long ago that I

had my procedure (May 24th) but I want my muscles to work again!

Giselle,

I had my myomectomy with Dr. Stanley West on 01/18/01. My six month

follow-up is next month. I'm afraid my tummy is still swollen and

numb. I don't exercise so it is probably my own fat, but I am not

overweight.

had her surgery last October. Perhaps she can tell us if

her abdomen is back to normal and if she exercise it.

I didn't tell my gyn about the myomectomy either. I don't know how

to tell her. She thought myomectomies were too bloody. And if she

was to do the surgery, she could probably only do a hysterectomy.

But she had no issues with me going to someone else for any kind of

surgery or UAE.

Best wishes,

Donna Jung

Hi if you don't mind me asking where is this Dr. Stanley West? I'm still

researching through specialist in Vegas but i think that i'm going to

end up having a myo. How much weight has everyone lost after having

surgery?

CB :)

Hi Donna and Giselle,

It is now 9 months since my surgery and I feel wonderful. I have

just RECENTLY noticed that the swelling from my myo seems to finally

be gone. I do not exercise regularly and have gained a few pounds

since my myo. (I seem to be experiencing the hormone fluctuations of

perimenopause)

As for the numbness, I am sorry to say that the area above the entire

width of my incision (about 4 inches high) is still numb. I'm

beginning to think that it will be numb forever. (I would give up

painful fibroids for a little numbness any day!)

Hope you are feeling well and pain free!

Dr. West is in NYC on the Upper East side.

>How much weight has everyone lost after having surgery?

I ended up losing 4 or so pounds by the time I got home. According

to the surgical report the fibroid itself weighed less than a pound

even though it was grapefruit sized--darnit! I think most of that

was from not being able to eat any of the hospital food, so they kept

me on a liquid diet while I was in there.

Since recovering from the surgery and doing lots and lots of walking

during my recovery and returning to the gym to resume my normal

weight training/aerobic workouts I have lost another 6 pounds since

then. My surgery was late May. I had been working out in the months

leading up to my surgery with very little results. It's kind of

funny how it's going along more quickly now. Hmmm.
