Guest guest
hi gloria, i had the same problems when i was on taxotere..........you need to find something that makes you go.......rasins and popcorn worked for me........and the body pain is normal too.......... healing hugs and prayers carol from michigan
Guest guest
Hi Carol, Popcorn? I guess that has ruffage (sp?), but it just sounds funny. Raisins and popcorn, ok, I'll try it. Does the body pain continue through treatment, or just the week after the IV (I get one IV every 3 weeks)? Also, how long after you stop the taxotere, does the body pain and constipation last? Thanks so much for the info, GLoria --- carol wrote: > hi gloria, i had the same problems when i was on > taxotere..........you need > to find something that makes you go.......rasins and > popcorn worked for > me........and the body pain is normal too.......... > > healing hugs and prayers > carol from michigan > > =====
Guest guest
hi gloria..........it took me some time after the taxotere was stopped before my body started getting back to 'normal', but everyone is differant. some days the body pain was worst than others.........and i would go from being constipated to the total opisite..,......then back again.......just like a dad burn yo yo...... healing hugs and prayers carol from michigan p.s. you very welcome, just hope the popcorn or the rasins does the trick for you..... Guest guest
Don't know if this will work for you but freshly squeezed orange juice is helpful to some...you need the pulp so don't strain it. You can also buy the O.J. with pulp if you don't want to squeeze...or you can just eat the oranges! > Hi, > I am now on Taxotere, but am quite > constipated/bloated, etc. What works? Guest guest
Thanks Doris, and I love oranges and orange juice. Is it usually ok to take Advil or something like that for the body pains? Guest guest
Thanks again Carol. Did you take anything for the body pain? Mine isn't bad, but it sure is irratating. It seems to be worse late in the day, like yesterday when I had a slight fever, attended 2 of the kids' basketball games, and went to a Christmas parade. My problem is partly due to the fact that I am usually so energetic, and now I am told I am acting more like a " normal " 56 year old, ha, ha. I do find that I don't run as fast after the kids in a game of basketball, and I sure don't want to climb the tree this year to put up lights outside!! Guest guest
I can't answer the question aboud advil. My doctor told me to take Tylenol for any pain but each doctor is different. I also have not taken taxotere so don't know about it. > > > Hi, > > > I am now on Taxotere, but am quite > > > constipated/bloated, etc. What works? Guest guest
Hi Gloria. It certainly could be Taxotere, since I have all those symptoms too. I found that Senokot works but it makes me nauseated. The " Women's " laxative, Correctol (bisacodyl) works too and doesn't make me as sick. But take it at night! It makes me bloated and very uncomfortable within hours of taking it. I knew I had a pre-op exam coming up, so I took a laxative and TWO Fleet enemas, and the practitioner who examined me said I was *still* completely jammed up in that department. You might need to double the dosage it says on the box, but again, do it at night! You don't want to be running to the bathroom all day or give yourself diahhrea. I'd ask your oncologist before taking more than the recommended dosage. The kind I use says to take one to two tablets, so I knew two was ok to take. As for the pain, I already have a chronic pain condition and I am finding it nearly unbearable, even though I am on Oxycontin (time-released Percocet). But extra-strength Tylenol takes the edge off. You might want to ask your oncologist for a narcotic. But DON'T take codeine! It is reknown for making people horribly constipated. When I take codeine cough syrup, I can feel my bowels shutting down. Percocet is must less of a problem as far as that goes. Also I take stool softener every night. Ducosium Sulfate, or something like that. Be careful though if you try Metamucil or Fibercon. You have to allow several hours before and after taking it before you can take any other medicines, otherwise it flushes the pills right out of your body. So if you're on antibiotics or other pills for chemo, I wouldn't recommend it. Good luck, and let me know if you find something that works! Guest guest
Hi Carol. Funny. Popcorn makes me constipated. I hate to tell you this but, for me, the pain continues right through the three weeks of the treatment. I sure hope the pain doesn't continue after the Taxotere or I will go buy a gun and shoot someone! But I haven't heard that it does. I think all the side effects take a while to wear off but they do wear off. I won't be a good one to answer your pain question, though, since I'm having a double mastectomy pretty much right after the Taxotere wears off and my surgeon said to expect SIX WEEKS of pain!!! I will keep you in mind for inspiration, nne. For those of you who don't know, nne said she got through the entire mastectomy without one single prescription painkiller. What a trooper! Jill, who would like to get one for her father if it's what it says it is. After all the times he abused and molested me as a child, he deserves a dad burn yo yo for Christmas. I need to take orange juice every day because I need to take iron to make my Procrit work. My daughter kept drinking it all so we bought orange juice with pulp cause she hates it. Guess what. I hate it too! I'd go with a whole orange once a day. Same vitamin C, same pooping power, and much less gross. At least for me. Jill
Guest guest
Sure. Advil is fine. I'd take it but I'm already on a similar prescription drug. As always, check with your oncologist first, but I think every woman on chemo has taken Advil. Come to think of it, it might not be good if your platelets (red blood cells that help cuts to heal) are low, so definitely check first. Jill At 09:18 PM 12/8/2002 -0800, you wrote: >Thanks Doris, and I love oranges and orange juice. >Is it usually ok to take Advil or something like that >for the body pains? >Bye for now, >Gloria
Guest guest
Advil does NOT contain aspirin, but people who have bad reactions to aspirin or are aspirin sensitive should not take it....says so right on the bottle. It's 100% Ibuprofen.

Guest guest
Axtually Advil is a Non-Steroidal Inflammatory Drug (NSAID) and although it doesn't have aspirin per se it does promote bleeding and make blood clotting harder so I would definitely stay away from it. It's always best to go with your doctor's and pharmacist's recommendations. I missed the original post so I'm not sure what it's about, but Tylenol and narcotics with Tylenol are safe to take before surgery. Still, ask you doctor if you need more than Tylenol. Guest guest
No you're not wrong about your sister, Cheryl. Both Advil and Aspirin are really hard on the stomach in different ways and your sister shouldn't be on either of them. Advil has been known to cause bleeding ulcers with no warning. So, better safe than sorry.
