Carol,

Thank you for the information. The bottle itself says there's no

carbs in it... I looked at that and not for sugar. I'll check it

again tonight to double be sure. He didn't add extra on his food

after it was cooked though and I only used about a tablespoon to cook

in. I'll check that... this is scary! I'm just a newbie side-order

cook for a diabetic, LOL... I'll get the hang of it soon :)

He had more beef than he did vegetables. I know this is going to

sound like a lot, but I used 2.5 pounds of bottom round steak, fat

trimmed. Then one bell pepper and one onion. My food counts book

said the onion only have 3. something of carbs?? CONFUSION.

No rice... he was eyeballing it, but he didn't get the rice :) I did

though... couldn't resist it, lol.

As for him being stressed? I think this is going to end up getting

him. He works in two fast food joints. Mcs at night and then

Taco Bell during the day. However, Taco Bell, he's on his own as all

he does is clean the parking lot all morning long... he took that on

for exercise, lol. Said if he's gotta do it, might as well get paid

for it, LOL! He's silly.

Anyhow, he tests twice while working at Mcs and he usually

holds a steady rate. Sometimes it does go up, but mostly, not. He

holds an average of 233 according to his graphs at diabetesnow where

I put everything in at night to keep up He writes it all in his

journal and I log it there at night.

Hi there,

If Harold was to wait until his levels went down, he'd never be able

to eat. His average is 233 :( He was diagnosed a week ago and he

has come a long way. He was in the upper 400's when he came home or

at least they ended up there... they stayed in the 300's all week and

they are now in the 200's... We were told by someone here I think

that he may have to go on insulin shots to get in the average? I

don't know if that's so or not, but this is really scary for the two

of us.

About the killing him with my cooking, seriously? It wasn't a joke.

It's my biggest fear!! All throughout the week, I took the advice of

another here and kept him on 12g of carbs a day. This pulled him

into the lower 300's and upper 200's. One day, we tried skipping a

meal and the BG went up... another day we tried cutting out all carbs

and that didn't make a difference at all.

I have him testing several times a day. As soon as he gets up, then

2 hours after breakfast, again before lunch, two hours after lunch,

before supper, then two hours after supper, then at bedtime.

Sam, he always washes them before testing and then uses the alcohol

swab. He has to otherwise his blood doesn't circulate enough to get

a test. I actually thought about asking if there was another place

on his body where he could draw blood for a test? He's fingers have

always been calloused and it's hard to get a sample sometimes. He

may have to do several pricks on several fingers before getting

enough blood :(

I don't think so, darlin'. You will come to call this disease this

*infernal* disease because of the way it confounds you. You are doing a

great job of helping your husband recover from a serious health crisis.

Please don't beat yourself. You need some hugs for all the fine work you are

doing!

Hugs to you, gal,

Susie :o)

Don't get confused, Mimi, nobody said carbs are poison. I think Susie

said carbs are poison for diabetics, which isn't quite the same

thing.

Just the same, she has got it all wrong, poor dear, but I have given

up trying to get her to see the error of her ways.

Don't believe everything people tell you! Take a look at the

literature (like first-year physiology textbooks) and then judge for

yourself.
