Guest guest
Hi Nita, Welcome to the group. You are in the right place to safely taper off the meds. I hate to be the one to break it to you, but dropping from 30 to 15 in one cut IS cold turkey. How have you felt during the past two months? Now you have the chance to slow down. This group advocates a very slow taper, making cuts of no more than 5 or 10%. That is what has been proven to work. I had gone cold turkey for 12 days when I got here in a literal hell. I was advised to go back on and taper. I've been tapering slowly ever since. Except TWICE because I am so hard headed, I stopped cold turkey again, got very sick again, reinstated at the last stable does again, and kept going. Otherwise I would be done by now. But I am getting close and I feel so much better. You can get off the meds, it just takes time. Best wishes, Yahoo! Shopping Find Great Deals on Holiday Gifts at Yahoo! Guest guest
Dear Nita, You said: << i'm Nita, i was on 30 mg cymbalta for 6 months, and cut back to15 on nov 4th. i tried cold turkey but couldn't do it. i was so sick! i am on vacation in tennessee right now, and when i get back to alaska, i would like to drop down to 7.5 or try cold turkey again. i just want this poison out of me! glad i found this group!>> ** We, too, are glad you found us! You have to slow down on your withdrawal, Nita. Decreases should be 5-10% at a time waiting in between until you feel stable again. There's no need to wonder whether you should wait two or three or more weeks. All you have tob do is go by how you feel. That is the most accurate gauge for safe withdrawal. The reason it is done this way is because by doing it too quickly you are risking doing more serious damage to your brain than what the drug has already done. Those who recover quickest and more fully are those who do 10% or smaller decreases. Believe me, you don't want to go faster or go cold turkey. If the difficulty of the withdrawal was the only problem that would be fine. But it's not. Cymbalta is a fairly new drug (the past few years). We don't get many people yet who have taken it. Why did you choose to take it initially 6 mos. ago? Have you ever taken any other drug of this sort? If you look in our files you'll see some suggestions for making this withdrawal easier on yourself in a document titled Basic Healing Protocol. It can be found here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/Withdrawal_and_Recovery/files/ Take a look at it and then ask for any clarification you need. It really needs to be re-written but I don't seem to get around to it, lol. OK, now, repeat after me -- I WILL NOT GO COLD TURKEY BECAUSE IT WILL MAKE CATHERINE CRY. THEN AFTER SHE CRIES SHE'LL YELL AT ME, AND FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, THIS IS NOT A PRETTY THING. Now, say it again. <g> In all seriousness, I dread having new people come to the group stating they did a cold turkey withdrawal. I dread it because this limits my ability to help them and I know they're in for utter misery for much longer than they ever thought they would be. Others have made this mistake so you don't have to make it. -- Regards, Swanson Health Products Buy 1 Get 1 For 1 Penny Enter Promo Code PCCFF <ahref= " http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=huXTs6tQbr8 & offerid=52520.1\ 0000043 & type=3 & subid=0 " Vitacost Save Up to 75% on Vitamins. Guest guest
Hey, What a coincidence! I will also be starting college in the fall. I hope you consider ASAC's autistic college student blog project. I'll send you information. Where will you be studying? You sound like a very interesting person. I'm going to be starting at the University of land-Baltimore County studying Economics and Political Science. I'm interested in law school, because I hope to become an advocate in disability and educational law. My main interests are in the social sciences, particularly economics, legal issues and social justice advocacy (particularly in education). I am also interested in working with kids, though not professionally. I will probably be volunteering in a inner city school in Baltimore this Fall while I'm at school. -Ari > > Well, lets see.... Guest guest
Yes, I know that those of us with PDD-NOS have less symptoms than people who are diagnosed with Aspergers or Autism, but I don't agree with the word " bad " because it sounds like being on the spectrum is a negative thing. There may be some challenges, but there are some positive points as well. Anyway, I was diagnosed with PDD-NOS when I was 5, so I've had it for most of my life. I went to public school during kindergarten, but that was rough (20 students in 1 room was too much for me) so I started going to a special ed school the following year, and I was in special ed up until I graduated from high school this past June. I accomplished much more than I would've had I continued with public school, but there were some times where I felt bad that I couldn't succeed without special ed. But since then, I've realized that there is no such thing as " normal " and that even people who aren't in special ed have some challenges.
