Guest guest
Martha, Just something to consider. When was diagnosed, our PCP told us we could choose either hospital. He said that the number one doc on liver transplants had left so it was a toss up. has been in the business longer at the transplants, but I know SLU has some great docs too. The head GI in 's group is the one that treated that singer, I forgot who, for her hepatitis thing a couple of years ago. Now the real issues with vs. SLU.....My friend's husband was in recently for liver problems. Unfortunately he died before getting a transplant. He had hep c and had gotten really bad. They got a liver and his wife went home to change since she knew she'd be there a long time and when she got back, someone who had overdosed came in as Status 1 and guess who got the liver. Let's debate that one....anyway. has a parking garage which costs per hour. The hospital is so huge, it takes forever to get around. They only have 3 channels that don't work so you have to get cable at $10 per day. Apparently they can only charge for 7 days per visit, but still. SLU, parking garage is right across the street. You take your ticket in and get it validated. No matter how long you are there, it's $1 per day. The head surgeon who had been doing all the living donor transplants at recently switched over to SLU. Though would like to think he was treated poorly at times at SLU, believe me, the stories my friend told me about her husbands treatment far out-gore anything that ever endured. Neither is in the best neighborhood so that's a toss up. One of 's surgeons I was told, does many transplants that wouldn't even touch. People that were so sick, it might not make their numbers seem so wonderful. Just a few things to think about. Ruth,,,all of you have a great weekend. __________________________________________________
