Guest guest
Since bleeding can occur without significant or even noticeable changes in INR or other bleeding tests, repeated blood work may not be helpful. And he may have to put up with bleeding from the nose and gums for quite a while. Coating the inside of the nose with Vaseline, especially in the winter period, may help reduce the bleeding. Good brushing and dental care reduce the problems with teeth and gums. I would think that more regular blood tests, perhaps every 3 or 4 months, is probably more helpful than every 6 months at this point. While it's nice that Jim has his appetite back, he needs to watch his weight carefully as it's very easy to regain all the weight he's lost and more. And because it will not be associated with muscle mass gain, it's going to be fat and that is hard on the heart and blood vessels. Plus it's very tough to lose because he's going to be on prednisone for a while and perhaps like me, forever. A good diet will add magnesium. You can get enough this way, but a Vitamin with minerals will supply loads. I have my magnesium checked every time I have my blood tests done and have since my tx.
