I just lost a friend, to liver failure, (he was diabetic and had AIDS, and his HIV meds did it) I'd hate to have liver problems cuz of meds i'm taking to make me feel better. Guest guest
T. ahhhhh I don't want to gain any more weight. He just put me on actos yesterday and my blood sugars have gone nuts, i was in the 300 and above till bed time and finally got it to 243, this am woke up to 165 had nothing to eat since 6pm last night when the lab tec took my bg and checked my glucometer i was back up to 189, please whats up with that. i still have not eaten today and really don't want to. glenna http://www.geocities.com/barnie_64/FAMILY.html Re: Actos vs Glucophage? In addition to Meenie's comments, I don't have a sense of " Actos vs. Glucophage. " They're both good drugs. As she said, some people have severe gastrointestinal side effects from Glucophage. Peole nearly always tolerate Actos pretty well. The official list of side affects for Actos is that it is known to be associated with edema and weight gain when you start taking it. The potential weight gain happens as insulin has become more effective and blood sugars have come down. High blood sugars are associated with weight loss, because sugar is being excreted via urine instead of being stored or used in the body. So when blood sugars come down there can be a small initial weight gain, usually if you are eating a substantial amount of calories. Another thing that accounts for the gain of a few pounds is that if you are storing glycogen in your muscles more efficiently (due to improvements in insulin sensitivity), your water weight will go up a little. This is the REVERSE affect of the common experience of going on a diet, especially a low carb diet, and losing a lot of weight quickly. When you suddenly reduce carbs and/or calories, there is an initial water weight loss as you become depleted of muscle (and liver) glycogen. This is because water is always used to store and maintain glycogen. Glucophage actually helps weight loss because of it's characteristic of quickly slowing down the liver's dumping of glucose into the bloodstream (less blood glucose = less potential glucose to be stored as fat). Actos actually slows down the liver, too, but Actos is slower acting...it takes 2 to 4 or more weeks for it to become fully active in your body. Anway, Glucophage and Actos (or Avandia, a drug similar to Actos) can work well together as an additive affect. T

Guest guest
>I don't think that Glucophage is known to cause liver problems this drug does have a liver warning. You have to read all the fine print on the warning sheet. It almost killed me before we figured out that it had shut my liver down. Test don't give accurate readings for me so there was no indicator but the minute I went off the drug my body went back to normal. I have had the best success with Avandia and no negative reactions after one year. Guest guest
Dear Susie. I am so sorry that your beloved dog is ailing! I had to have mine put down, a year ago, and it is one of the hardest things I have had to do. I feel sad just thinking about someone else having to make that decision. Please be kind and gentle to yourself, as you come face to face with this possible. As for depression, me, too! I think listening to sad music, and allowing yourself to cry, is a wonderful healing tool. I believe that God gave us tears, to use to wash out our emotional wounds. My most comforting exercise when I am feeling depressed, is to sit in my rocking chair, with a huge, Tedi Bear. I hold Tedi, rock, cry, and talk to myself. I felt really nuts the first few times I tried this, but now I am quiet comfortable doing this. Since my son and his family were here over the last holiday season, I haven't wanted to leave home. Most of the time I don't even want to see anyone, or talk with anyone. I am not aware of being depressed, but am wondering. I do take Prozac. If this is depression, I think without the Prozac, I wouldn't even be here! Hugs, Sheila __________________________________________________
