Hi e

I would like to know from mayo if we can stop our bronch from progressing. I know of some who have had it for many years and never got any worse while others are in a bad way

cheers Lee

Thank You, Joy! Yes I was aware somewhat that the disease progresses from cylindrical to saccular. Just sad that far too often we get the diagnosis far too late! I have not been on too many websites re: bronchietasis, I usually just call my son's doctors @ Mayo. I have been careful to write down lots and lots of questions for ournext visit... that's on March the 30th.Hey if any of you have a question or 2 that u would like me to ask the pulmonologist @ Mayo Clinic, we have our appt @ 8AM that Tues, I think it's the 30th. So send me an email...

Again, Joy- Thank-You! I have been schooled by your postings here repeatedly and that's priceless!!! --e

hi e, all,

just thought I'd clarify - the 'types' of bronch ie cylindrical or saccular (cystic) just relate to various stages and phases, and degrees of types of damage to the lung rather than different kind of disease. It begins as cyclindrical in that the bronchii become rigid, straighten (cyclinder-like) , and as the damage progress pockets mucus alter the shape, and form pockets (cysts), and then there're several other variations, but all are small....

I have some articles if anyone is interested, and there's info on websites you can find by googling 'types of bronchiectasis'

cheers
