Guest guest
There is no upper limit on the dose for " pure " opioids like oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, or fentynl, provided that the dose is increased responsibly by a physician. The key to opioid dosing is called " titration to effect " . Titration is just a fancy word for " increasing the dose step by step " . A good pain doctor will increase the dose until either the pain is relieved or the side effects become intolerable or the patient behaves irresponsibly. Side effects can be treated--the main one is constipation. Do not let a doctor tell you that there is a " too much " limit to these medications. It is much more likely that she or he has a " comfort level " that has nothing to do with your pain. If a pill mixes opioids with other medications there is an upper dose limit. Pills such as Vicodin and Lortab do have upper limits because of the other medication. Taking too many Tylenol and other NSAIDS can kill you and can also cause long term organ damage. mb Baluss, mbaluss@...
