It is hard when you have medical problems, and very stressful to know

there is no way you can trust the Doctors who you would expect to help.

I have had the same experience this week, and find I'm better not

seeing any hospital Doctor. My appoinment this week stressed me out so

much I made it the last consultation. It's a pitty it has taken me so

long to come to this conclusion.

Don't waste your energy on them hun, it's not worth it. I have

actually started to pity their ignorance over anti depressants.

Sending you lots of hugs

I empathize with your story. I am a newcomer here and still on antidepressants. Last week I went to my doctor to discuss sexual side effects of prozac and to see my options. I was on 20 mg a day for about 5 months at this point. He gave me a prescription for Wellbutrin. I had alot of questions about coming off of prozac and going onto Wellbutrin. He told me I could stop the prozac that day and go on the full dose of Wellbutrin. I followed his orders and was so sick the next few days I could hardly see straight, I was shaking, I was having confusion and memory laspses. I gave him a call to discuss the side effects and possibly going down to a smaller dose and instead he gave me a prescription for Effexor and told me to stop taking the Wellbutrin all together. I didn't follow his orders, he has obviously never experienced the horrific effects of messing with one's brain chemistry. So I cut my dose of Wellbutrin

and feel better now, but really hate my doctor. Amy, have you checked out DangerousMedicine.com?

This is a forum to post bad experiences with drugs,

chemo, surgery, doctors, etc. I think this would be an

excellent story to add.

Just my .02.

Tonya

I just wanted to share this story with people I

thought could relate.

I went to neurologist today because I've been having

numbness, tingling, twitching, and pins and needles

sensations in my limbs and head. To me, it seems

pretty serious. But apparently not to the doctor. What

did he suggest was the cause of this without doing any

tests? Serotonin deficiency and suggested I go on

anti-depressants!!! I explained the cons of

anti-depressants, really just to see his reacion since

I knew gettig any legitimate help from him was a lost

cause. I said that you have no sex drive on them and

he said: " Of 100 people, only 10% have sexual side

effects " and I said " You're just saying what the

pharmaceutical companies tell you. Everyone I know on

anti-depressants has sexual side effects. " Then he

warned me of taking my health into my own hand with

supplements. And I said " What about all the dangers of

prescription drugs? They even list them! SSRI's

suppress dopamine which can later cause Parkinson's

and which also makes you crave carbs and sweets, which

is why many people on them gain weight, and can also

cause diabetes. " (Obviously, these are just a few side

effects, but I didn't contiune because he didn't want

to hear anything I was saying.) He had no response. He

has a zoloft tissue box on his desk. A neurologist? It

seems more and more that an anti-depressant is a

doctor's solution to every problem.

Then he gave me some " tests " . He had me touch my

finger to my nose with eyes closed and I completely

missed! And his resposne was " Good. Good. " ???!!! I

even had some tremors and twtiches in front of him

which he completely ignored. I don't know if he was so

convinced that nothing was wrong with me (that an

anti-depressant couldn't fix) that he just didn't care

or thought I was making them up or what. Before I

left he suggested that I would never get better if I

didn't go on antidepressants.

Anyway, I'm sure this story won't surprise anyone...

I really think doctors have no idea what they're doing

- literally. I had similar experiences to the ones you

describe below with my psychiatrist which is how I got

so sick in the first place. I told him that the 4mg of

ativan he prescribed were making me seriously sick and

not working and that I didn't want to take it anymore.

His solution? A higher dosage or an equally awful

drug.

And I forgot a good part of the other story. When I

left yesterday, the receptionist asked if the doctor

had given me a prescription. I said " No. " She looked

at me in disbelief, " No prescription? " So apparently

just a visit to this guy's office before any sort of

testing, automatically guarantees a precription for

something. And this was the first time I'd be there

(and the last).

I once went to a psychiatrist when I was 18 years old and he literally gave me a five minute evaluation and then a five minute list of everything that was wrong with me. Apparently I had ADD, I was Bulimic, I was Depressed, And Obsessive Compulsive, and I had social anxiety with some psychosis. I left there with 2 perscriptions, I forget what the one was, but the other was Risperdal, and that one was AWFUL! I couldn't keep my eyes open for one second I was so tired, and I was so fatigued that all I could do was cry because I wanted my energy back. i was very bitter at doctors for a long time as well. now, you know

that you have to do your own research as well as take their opinion.
