Guest guest
Sharon, from how you describe how MS affects you, it sounds to me as if Avonex (once a week!) would be great! Copaxone is really for Relapsing- Remitting MS, whether or not we also have signs and symptoms all the time. As I recall, I used a syringe with Avonex, but this was a long time ago, and I do with Copaxone, too. Just my quirk, I guess! Best of luck to you, auto-inje ctor or syringe! Love, n Rojas Seeking opinions re Avonex, Copaxone, Rebif, Betaseron I'm pretty sure I will be back on one of the CRAB drugs before too long. I'm seeking opinions on the drugs please. I was on Avonex for 5 years and did fine on it but stopped it on my own because I was tired of doing the shots. (stupid reason, huh?) What is the upside as well as the downside to the drugs you take or have taken? How did you feel? Do you use an auto injector? If so what do you think of that? I'm looking forward to hearing from you all. Thanks! Sharon Sharon (MSersLife creator/owner) Bloom where you are planted..... Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
I have used Rebif, went of that when it made me suicidal (oh no!) and then copaxone, went off That due to extreme injection site reactions and it also made me even moodier then usual (I'm a *moonchild*, we tend toward being moody as it is without help!!) Now I am on LDN, my Neuro doesn't know about it, I figure what he don't know won't hurt me. Guest guest
I used the syringe, too, the auto-injector scares me when it goes off and the little involuntary jump makes it worse. Just me, many people are fine with it. Hugs!~*~ Akiba ~*~ Seeking opinions re Avonex, Copaxone, Rebif, Betaseron I'm pretty sure I will be back on one of the CRAB drugs before too long. Guest guest
Sharon, I started on Avonex and stayed on for a year. I couldn’t get rid of the flu symptoms. Felt awful for 2 days every week. Hated the shots too. I am now on Rebif. I like the autoinjector a lot. Don’t see the needle. It is so easy—takes me less than 5 minutes for entire procedure. I get a headache if I take it too early but usually I take it at bedtime and sleep through the symptoms. There is some redness and irritability at the injection site. It hurts worse on thighs and arms so I use stomach and hips. I have not had too many new symptoms since I started. Am having a MRI this summer while off of work to check on lesions. Hope this helps, Connie From: MSersLife [mailto:MSersLife ] On Behalf Of Sharon Marsden Sent: Saturday, June 10, 2006 8:02 PM To: mserslife Subject: Seeking opinions re Avonex, Copaxone, Rebif, Betaseron I'm pretty sure I will be back on one of the CRAB drugs before too long. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, when Tysabri came out, I thought oh good someone else will be sticking me. I stopped avonex and then Trisabri was taken off the market. I never did Avonex again. I was sick of it. (stupid reason?) Now I take Copaxone. At first I thought, every day? yuck! But with the autoject it's not that bad. You don't even see the needle and I have no side effects. Good luck, Sharon Marsden wrote: I'm pretty sure I will be back on one of the CRAB drugs before too long. I'm seeking opinions on the drugs please. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, As I was just dx in Dec. I've only been on the med since Jan. I was given the choice of Avonex or Copaxone. I picked Copaxone for one simple reason--it is not supposed to cause depression-Avonex has a tendency towards depression. I tend more toward depression, and MS in itself can do that also. With 5 kids, I also didn't want the flu like symptoms I heard avonex can tend to give one also. I am happy with Copaxone. It has become a daily routine. Yes I use the autoject, it is fast, easy, and I have it down to about 30 sec.The only minor side effects I've had are 15 min. of stinging after the injection and some site reaction.I'm happy to hear you are wise to get back on treatment. Good luck in your decision. blessings, kate -- Seeking opinions re Avonex, Copaxone, Rebif, Betaseron I'm pretty sure I will be back on one of the CRAB drugs before too long. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, Rick was on Avonex. It was a once a week shot intramuscular. He took 2-3 Tylonal extra strength about a half an hour before he gave himself the shot. There was only one time he forgot to and had gotten very light headed, dizzy etc. He was also very cold when he took it even with the Tylonal. Eventually the symptoms went away but he was always cold. Rick also started to get depressed. He hated to take the shots. When he told his neurologist about the depression he took him immediately off of it. Since Feb/March he's been on Copaxone. That is a daily shot subcutaneous and uses an auto-injector. He says it's a piece of cake compared to the other shots. He just holds the injector against his skin, pushes the button waits 10 seconds and he's done. He also has no side effects with the Copaxone. He's really happy with the Copaxone and I'm relieved that it's going so well after such a rough start with meds. Hope this helps. ~hugs~ Dawn~Sometimes God brings things to you because you have the strength thru him to deal with it. ~ ~All Animals are God's angels, they give to us their unconditional love~.~A dog has one aim in life...to bestow his heart. Guest guest
Hi Sharon- I've been on Rebif for a little over two months now. I can't really tell you too much, because even though I've had MS for over 20 years, I've only started getting treatment recently. I can tell you what my experience with Rebif has been so far. For the first two months, it was awful. I'd wake up almost every morning with a low grade fever. A foul taste in my mouth, and headaches. The last couple of weeks have been tolerable, however. I guess it just had to get into my system real good. When I first got on Rebif, I did the same thing you're doing. Asking everyone what it was like. I got alot of different answers. I think, like MS, it effects everyone in different ways. Although with the MS, alot of the symptoms are the same. I use the auto-injector. I have a real phobia to needles. With this, I don't have to see the needle. And it doesn't hurt. I inject in my stomach and arms. Sometimes in my legs, but they tend to get a little sore. Well, that about sums it up. I hope that whatever you choose, turns out to be the best for you. God bless...Val -- Seeking opinions re Avonex, Copaxone, Rebif, Betaseron I'm pretty sure I will be back on one of the CRAB drugs before too long. I'm seeking opinions on the drugs please. Guest guest
I have been on Copaxone now since 2000. I have never had any side effect from it either. I tried Avonex my first 6 months with my MS. I never could tell if my MS was cause me to feel so bad or just the side effects from the Avonex. I want to keep my eye on that Tysabri to see if my doc might let me try it. I have Spasmss sometime in my legs and they have always been mild and I have always use Advil to get rid of them. They usually go away after an hour after I have taken the Advil. I never have ever heard anyone else use Advil but it works for me. Guest guest
I don't mean to sound stupid, but I've noticed a lot of people here referring to "LDN"....what is that? I'll probably feel retarded when I find out, but it isn't coming to me right now.
