We use Houstons because we didn't see any changes with Kirkman enzymes. When I

joined this group so many raved about them so we gave them a try and love them.

It is likely personal preference and what works best for your child.

I do like that no fenol works on yeast and the others really help with

viruses.

Personally I would give the gut the chance to work out some of they yeast by

giving a probiotic, a good broad spectrum one. Then look at some of the yeast

killers. For me I would use no fenol, candex and gse. Others really like

others and none are bad ideas. I like the more natural ones.

Definitely start with low doses and use charcoal for die-off. Good luck,

there is a lot of health benefits from getting rid of the yeast!

start with biotin or a probiotic? As we start with a very low dose with all of

her supplements and then work up - what would you recommend as dosage.

Another question please. She takes Enzymedica enzymes and Kirkmans . Most

people use the Houston on this site - any reason why Houstons?

On the weekends when we chelate I give my boys Nutribiotic GSE.

I give them each 5 drops 2 x day and it does the trick.

My boys are 5 and 6 yrs. old and both weigh about 45 lbs.

Nystatin doesn't really seem to do to much for us.

TRY ACCIDOLPHLIS ( I PROBABLY DIDN'T SPELL IT RIGHT) It comes in a powder

form and you could mix it in anything. My son and I used to take it when he

was nursing years ago because we were always battling yeast problems. Hope

this helps.

What does your child's doctor say? Did you seek a second opinion on

whether it's yeast actually causing the yellow stools and itching?

(as you may know I'm all for second and even third opinions) The

reason I ask is because from wrongdiagnosis.com there are a number

of reasons for yellow stools, and I don't beleve they even mention

yeast as one of them:

A good brand of acidophilus, will really help. You can get a good strong

brand at _www.kirkmanlabs.com_ (http://www.kirkmanlabs.com) . Call their

customer service before you order and ask about the different pro-bios that they

offer, their Customer Service is EXTREMELY helpful, and knowledgable on pro

biotics.

Hi ,

yep , we had recurring itching and yellow stools here too.

I find GSE really strong, almost too strong, and only use it for a few

days if things were really bad. A product that I finally found success

with was Kirkmans yeast aid. It was gentle enough that Charlie didn't

react badly too it but it was efficient. I was able to use it over

quite a long period of time for Charlie and it really seemd to help

calm the dreaded yeast flares down.

( I personally didn't have any success with a pure pro-

biotic/acidophilus until Charlies tummy was a bit calmer - but I know

many who have had great success with that approach. You have to go with

your gut ( yarg - terrible pun!!).

Good luck

We started my son, then 2, with Children's primadolphilus. He is now 4 and takes

Custom Probiotics every day to help with his yeast problem. We also consult with

a DAN nutritionist and she has been wonderful with my son. He takes Nystatin to

control yeast as well.

He finally has formed BM's that are the correct color.

Actually this site DOES mention yeast.

Candida is yeast overgrowth.

I have been thinking about this and I agree.

The probiotics will help the good bacteria but don't kill yeast.

Can the Kirkman's yeast aid kill the yeast? That is why we use

Nystatin and I forgot to mention that I need a Rx for it. I get it

from a compounding pharmacy that does not add 50% sugar.

Also wanted to add that you should avoid sugar. Sugar feeds the

yeast. That includes fruits and expecially apples. You can use

summer fruits like canteloupe and mangos. No berries.

re: yeast

Thanks michelle - that does seem to be teh route to go -- i was tryin to

get rid of it with GSE for a while, but it just comes back, i need to give

his body something so that he can get rid of it himself, if that makes any

sense -- i'll definately give customer service a call!

Excuse my ignorance, but how do you know if yeast if a continued problem and if

something is or isn't working?

Constipation or diahrrea, increase in weird behaviors, irritability,

red anus, increase in hunger..for starches. For example: my son raided

the cupboard above the stove to get the sugar jar while we were

sleeping and eat it. Something he has never ever done before.

Likely you will know. I figured it out right away when he was acting

weird and did not poop for a day. You can also look for a white

coating on their tongue that does not come off with toothbrushing.

Usually, their bowel habits and behavior change.

Typical signs that we hear over and over are explosive stools, lots of bubbles

in the tummy, getting up at three or four in the morning with the giggles, and

extremely silly behavior. White tongues in the morning are another tip-off.

Also, with my son, it's scripting and sometimes, a sinus-y thing that we finally

got rid of!

For me, I get irritable and can't stand to be touched. Also, zero sense of

humor. NT dd #1

seems to get emotional---cries easily, very sensitive. NT dd #2 whines, and is

quick to

frustration and irritability. We treat with No Fenol + GSE and feel better. We

are also

drinking homemade kefir every morning.

Sometimes it is obvious, sometimes not. It's easy with some kids, very hard

to look at others and just tell who has a systemic yeast problem and who

does not.

The best, most complete way, regardless of testing that can be faulty, is to

do a trial of natural and/or rx antifungals to see if the child responds.

Get a response, they have yeast, no response, not as clear, maybe not the

right antifungal. Most people/kids with chronic diseases, like ours, have

yeast somewhere.

I will trade your Biology degree and your proclivity for science anyday for

my Psych degrees and my very nonscientific mind :-) Lucky you. Yes, very

much like college, only without the drinking, well usually.

If you suspect a yeast problem get a stool sample test done for

parasites, bacteria and yeast. Then even if the results come back

negative and you still suspect yeast try probiotics, candex and GSE

and just follow the directions on the bottles. I was using nystatin

for a while but my son's yeast got too used to it and multiplied again

and everytime I gave him nystatin he would just get die off or feel

lousy. So I am switching over to 1/2 cap of candex with 2 drops GSE

in morning awhile after breakfast and then 1/2 cap of candex with 2

drop GSE in the evening usually candex on an empty stomach is best. I

called the company because finding the time to give on an empty

stomach was hard with his schedule and all. The lady said if the food

is a protein then the candex will still be able to work on the yeast

and not just the carbs (I am explaining that kind of weird- but if you

call you could ask the company like I did). The lady said to try to

give it away from the rice milk that he drinks in the am and pm. So

anyway after stopping the nystatin my son had a lot of mucous for a

couple days. Then started with the candex and GSE and saw improvement

the same day. Candex does not seem to cause the die off like

nystatin did and he seems a lot happier today. No diarrhea, but one

big yeasty poop. And make sure to get the poop cleaned up quick or it

can sure cause an awful rash. See I thought that the yeast was gone

because when he had the diarrhea it didn't smell it was all mucousy,

but really it didn't smell because the yeast was staying inside him

instead of comming out because it was resistant to the nystatin.

Yeast cannot become resistant to the candex though. I didn't get a

clear idea as to whether or not he had yeast until I used the enzymes

and it started comming out and that was the only reason it showed up

on the stool sample report at all. Because the first stool sample I

had done through our Reg. Pediatrician came back negative. Our son

was on antibiotics for almost 60 days straight and my one doctor was

assuring me that yeast overgrowth was not an issue. It wasn't until I

started seeing the main doctor of the practice and she agreed with me

that he should get the nystatin, take enzymes and use probiotics and

add more protein to his diet instead of so many carbs. He did well at

first with the nystatin. Activated charcoal helps with die off

symptoms and sucks up toxins - read about it on other postings on this

site. My son gets so hyper when his yeast is up. The nystatin was

actually giving my son hypoglycemia when it wasn't working anymore (I

think any way). Hypoglycemia tends to go hand in hand with yeast

overgrowth i find out. (I bought a glucose monitor and actually

pinpointed the times when his sugar went real low too). My son has

tested high for alluminom toxicity and that is why I can't seem to get

his GI symptoms to go away. We will look into chelation at some point.

The amount of yeast caused by OLE/Virastop can be tremendous. Try

adding biotin and/or Candidase and/or GSE. Or increase the Diflucan

[altho watch for liver/kidney stress with Diflucan].

Thanks, but I guess what I don't get is that OLE is supposed to help with

yeast?? Also how many natural antifungals can you do at one time??

It never helped with yeast at my house. And, it is effective against

viruses, and viral " die off " tends to cause a lot of yeast.

I did biotin, Candidase, and GSE. Other ideas here

Liz,

Yeast tend to grow in a moist environment, also one

with readily available nutrition (sugar/starch...).

Corn starch can actually feed the yeast. Baby powder

used to have talc in it, which was drying, but talc

has been implicated in worsening scarring in surgery

and possibly in respiratory problems, so it was taken

out of baby powder. You can use lotrimin (over the

counter antifungal)twice a day, and try to give the

bottom lots of air time. Creamy desitin seems to

irritate the skin, so I would stay away from it.

Desitin (the NONcreamy kind) does tend to protect the

skin from irritants (urine and poop) until it can

heal. A light coating of vaseline or A & D ointment

can also provide a barrier to red skin, but it tends

to keep the area more moist than zinc oxide. Gretchen
